I can't look at him or I might punch him in the face.
"That's bang out of order," I hiss. "You have no right to go snooping through my life like that."
"I'm sorry, Cara," he says. And I can tell he means it because his dick has gone soft. "But we can't risk someone coming into our lives with an agenda. The risk was minimal - we knew Thalia wasn't a plant - but we had to be certain you weren't an FBI agent or someone working for a rival family or organization.
"Seriously? Do I look like a fucking FBI agent?"
"No, of course not, but we have systems in place, and we follow them religiously. It wasn't personal. Nobody looked at the information other than Romano, me, and Salvo. Not even his father. And I only checked the file when I realized after the wedding that I wanted to see you again."
That mollifies me somewhat. I do get what he's saying, but seriously, nobody in their right mind would believe I was an FBI agent!
He cups my chin gently. "Cara, I need you to understand something."
"OK, I'm listening." And I am. It may be stupid, but I'm falling for this guy. Falling so hard that I'm terrified it's going to hurt like a bitch when I land. Just because Thalia found her happy ever after with Salvatore doesn't mean Christiano wants anything more than one night. Before last night, I'd have been fine with that. OK, maybe not fine, but I'd have pulled my big girl pants on and carried on like I always do. Cara Matthews doesn't let fuckboys get her down. She brushes them off and gets dickedby a new one. Her strategy for getting over one man is to get under another.
"I've slept with a lot of women."
"Jesus, sugarcoat it why don't you," I snort.
He looks at me with exasperation. "If you'll let me finish, what I'm trying to say is that I've always used a condom. Always. No exceptions."
"Uhm, OK?" I feel like he's trying to make a point but maybe I'm sleep deprived or dickmatized because I'm not getting it at all.
"I've always worn a condom because I've never cared about any of the women I fucked. Not ever. They were mostly one-night stands or casual flings. None of them had their backgrounds checked. There was no need, as I didn't plan on keeping them around for long. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"You're a manwhore?"
He rolls his eyes. "No, Cara. I didn't use a condom last night because as well as knowing you were clean and on birth control, I also wanted to fuck you bare, with nothing in the way. This is more than a one-night stand to me. I want to get to know you, I want you to be a part of my life." He rakes one hand through his already messy hair. There's a hint of vulnerability in his eyes, the hard veneer he wore like a jacket last night in thecoffee shop is missing. I prefer this version of Christiano. He's more real. More the kind of guy I could love.

"Are you going to say something?" he asks. "I can leave if you want?"
"I'm...I'm just shocked," I admit. "I'm not used to guys who give a shit. Mostly they want sex and food."
"Cara, you're worth a lot more than that.Sei bellissima e ho intenzione di renderti felice per il resto dei nostri giorni."
The softness in his voice makes my heart ache. "What does that mean?"
"It means I think you're beautiful and I plan to make you happy for as long as you'll have me."
"Does it involve a lot of mind-blowing sex? Oh, and chocolate?" A girl needs to know these things. I'm all about priorities.
"I can't help with the latter right now, but how about we get started on the former?" He leans in and kisses me. Even though I should be in college now, I don't care. Christiano has a talent for making me forget my own name. All I can think about is him. Every delicious inch of him, which right now is sliding back inside me.
I never thought I'd meet a man like him. I thought Thalia's love story was a once-in-a-million, that she got luckywhereas I was stuck forever dating losers. Maybe now I can have my happy ending too.
