I twist and see one of my men pointing at his screen, aimed at a familiar van. He doesn’t even have to say the words and I feel a smile crawling onto my lips. They’re here. About damn time.

“If anything comes up, radio Luca. He’ll take care of it.” I’m turning away before any of them can see the lift of my lips. “Don’t disturb me for the next hour. No, the next two.”

I’ll need a small break to catch up. Afterward, I’ll get right back on my path of vengeance.

My feet carry me out of the room, my body moving naturally toward the elevator. Doors sliding open, I give a brisk nod to the man who pushes the button on the bottom.

There’s the hum of music that quickly passes with the two floors belonging to the casino. Shoving my hands in my pockets, I wait for the doors to slide open.

Entering a room that looks like an abandoned lobby, I thank him before the elevator doors slide closed, returning to the main floor of the casino.

If any bystander accidentally made their way down here, they’d find hardly anything appealing about the place. It’s more unsettling than anything, an intentional detail. With guards marked at each entrance to the room, they wouldn’t make it far enough to discover what goes on down here.

As the family who runs our section of the state, we have to have a place to take those in need of questioning. The casino is our money maker and a perfect hiding place. Very few peopleusedto know such information. Too many at this point thanks to V’s exploit.

I take my time moving through the underground. Funny enough, V is getting taken to the very area that got us in hot water in the first place. After exposing the very area to a neighboring family, he should already know it well enough to know what he’s gotten himself into.

I find Aldo and Elio standing behind a door, the twins both matching with their arms crossed and annoyed expressions on their faces. Knowing how much they enjoy watching over the bar more than hunting down pesky hackers, I quickly dismiss them with a brisk thanks.

If I’d gone myself, I would’ve made a mess. Dirtying my hands in a public space wouldn’t make any of us look good. This way is the smarter option. My patience is about to be rewarded.

“Good luck,” Aldo starts as he’s the first to abandon the wall. He’s wearing a cheeky smile, like there’s a joke yet to be told.

“Have fun,” Elio finishes as he follows his brother. He on the other hand doesn’t look too amused.

“I don’t need luck.” Muttering the words, I stare at the surface separating me from the hacker. Will two hours be enough?

I have V right where I want him. If taking out all my frustrations on the man is considered fun, then I’m about to have a blast.

Filling my chest with air, my lips turn downward as I push my way into the room.

* * *

V is sitting on a chair with his hands tied together behind his back. With a bag on his head, he doesn’t move even slightly when he hears me enter. The front of his hoodie lifts with his next breath.

He’s smaller than I imagined. Explains why he only ever chooses to attack behind a screen. He doesn’t look like he can survive a physical fight. Hell, one punch is all it’ll take to finish him.

I scowl at the thought ofthisbeing the guy who bested me.

“So, we finally meet.” I click my tongue and notice the way his body stiffens. “V the hacker. Hardly impressive.”

Like that, his body slackens. Like the fears have seeped out in an instant, replaced with hurt from a mere few of my words. All that work to get my hands on him and a little insult is all it takes to put him down?

Fuck that.

I approach him and grab the top of the bag. With the hope of striking fear back into him, I tug it off with furrowed brows.

There’s a blur of white and I’m staring at the opposite of what I imagined my enemy to look like.

A second of silence turns into two and then three.

Violet-hued eyes squint at me and for the first time today, I’m at a loss of words. Even my constant thoughts of getting payback have even gone silent.

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such peaceful silence.

“This is a mistake.” The words come out flat and thiswomandoesn’t say a word. No, she’s too busy staring up at me. She’s as curious as I am. “You are not V.”

I’m stepping away from the woman without thinking, making space between us. The bag crinkles in my grip as I try to understand what is happening. Realizing such filth has been on her, I throw it down in disgust.
