When we hit the ground floor, I’m tugged toward the back. They take an emergency exit, ruining their undisturbed silence with blaring alarms.

I’ve never witnessed such a reckless kidnapping. This must’ve been a rush of a decision. If I had realized that my location had been exposed, I would have abandoned my entire life in a similar manner. I’d be safe then.

There’s an unmarked van waiting. Neither man cares much for the ruckus they’ve created. Their only concern is getting me inside the vehicle without much of a fight. They easily succeed.

“So, humor me. Where are we going?” I grimace when I’m squashed between the two of them once more. With the van taking off, I know the seating arrangement won’t be changing until we reach our destination. It’s going to be a long drive.

The one on the left chuckles like I’ve told him a joke. “Underground.”

“Oh.”

Thanks to my involvement with the Lombardi family, I know enough about where we are going. Funny how my knowledge is coming into play. I also know that my death won’t be quick either. Down there, that’s where they get all the information they need out of those they capture.

Different rooms with different methods of torture. Right below the casino, the loud noises of machines easily cover up the sounds that happen in each room.

As someone who has been in contact with a whole lot of bad people, I’m sure I’m loaded with information that’ll sell for good money. All they have to do is slap my name down with it too and it’ll be even more valuable with authenticity.

They’re going to torture me until they’re satisfied and sell my secrets. I’m the perfect person to snag. Once I’m dried out and useless, they’ll stuff me in a barrel.

“He’sgoing to want to talk to her,” the one on the right says. With the lack of description, my mind goes in the wrong direction and my stomach tightens up.

I’m nervous because of the thought of death.Notbecause I’m worried about seeing a certain someone up close and in the flesh. As if Dante had the time to waste on someone like me.

Nicola Lombardi is the one who wants me dead. I crossed him and did serious damage.

“You draw a lot of attention.” The one on the left grabs a bag from the floor. It’s like a potato sack and there’s a dark stain against the corner. I can smell it from here. “You’ll have to wear this. We have a long way to go with too many eyes.”

Without much more of a warning, he tugs it down my head and blinds me. Despite knowing where we’re going and knowing it’s a bit of a drive, I focus on not breathing in the stench soaked into the fabric of the bag.

I need to figure out how I’m going to get out of this mess before it gets a lot worse.

If I’m lucky, I’ll die of a heart attack before I meet my demise.

Dante

I feel good. No, I feelwonderful.Like I’m on top of the world.

It’s not often that everything goes to plan. A part of me thoughtsomethingwould go wrong. Waiting for someone to tell me our annoying target has slipped past my fingers, the silence I’ve received has only brightened my mood.

My chest continues to swell with satisfaction as each second of blissful silence passes by.

Today is one for the books. Not only have I taken care of the pain constantly digging his way into our systems for the last four months, I’ve also convinced my boss to give me an entire day all alone with him.

Nicola wants him gone, I want something much worse. I want V to regret exploiting my security. For makingmelook weak in front of my peers. As someone who takes my security role to a personal level, I don’t care if it’s someone causing a scene in the casino or someone hiding behind a screen.

No onefucks with the hard work my family has put into our livelihood.

I want this hacker to feel the same whirl of emotions I experienced when trying to overcome this hefty bumpy path and beg for forgiveness for everything he’s put us all through. I want him tobegfor his life. Then I’ll give him false hope and make him think he’ll live past tomorrow. When all of this excitement hits its peak, I’ll let reality come crashing down on him.

My fingers twitch in anticipation before I curl my hands into fists to calm myself. I’m still on the clock. My peers expect me to be focused at all times. The moment something comes up, I’m the one they look up to for guidance.

Calming down isn’t an easy task, not when it comes to today. On the outside, I can easily bite down the urge to grin. However, I don’t bother trying to shut down this victorious feeling that’s growing on the inside.

I can’t remember the last time I felt this sort of excitement. After weeks and weeks, there’s finally an end to this game of cat and mouse. The roles have flipped and I’m not the type to enjoy chasing for as long as I have. The hacker had no time to think up a plan and escape thanks to Dario hardly leaving a trace.

V knows he’s the mouse now. He must be terrified, anticipating a punishment that his mind can’t even comprehend.

“Boss.”
