“Of course not.”

“Do you think Indigo thinks less of you because you grew up in a trailer?”

“She begged me not to leave.” I slam my eyes shut as the memory assails me.

“Then, why do you think you’re not good enough for her?”

Remind me never to go up against my interrogator half-brother again. I didn’t want to tell him any of this and yet I find myself spilling my secrets to all of my brothers.

“Say I’m good enough for her,” I begin. Damn them for making some good points about my past.

“Hold up!” Damon raises his hand. “You are good enough for her.”

“Yeah,” Peace nods in agreement. “Growing up in a trailer doesn’t make you less than. It’s not your fault your mother was an alcoholic. And it definitely isn’t your fault your father was an asshole who didn’t bother to get to know you.”

“Being a good man has nothing to do with who your father is,” Miller grumbles. “It’syouractions andyourdeeds that determineyourworth. Not whose name is on your birth certificate.”

I contemplate what he’s saying. I would never judge anyone for having an asshole for a dad. Why then am I being harsh on myself?

Raven.Indy’s mom never fails to make me feel less than. But she’s only one person. A person who couldn’t be bothered to show up at her mother’s funeral. Maybe her opinion isn’t important.

Crap. Did I screw up?

“Okay.” I nod to concede his point. “But what about the future? I’m still on the road for more than half the year. I won’t be home to run her a bath when she has a bad day.”

“Do you have access to phones on the road?” Brody asks.

What kind of question is this? “Yeah.”

“Then you phone her or Facetime her. Modern technology is pretty cool.” He winks.

“Next issue,” Damon demands.

“Indy hates how famous I am.”

“She does? Has she told you as much?” he asks.

I scowl. “No, but she worries about all the groupies who throw themselves at me because of my fame.”

“Then, prove to her that being famous won’t affect your relationship.” He makes it sound simple. It’s anything but.

“How?”

Brody rubs his hands together. “I have a few ideas.”

Everyone groans.

Peace points at him. “Nothing illegal.”

Brody bats his eyelashes. “Naturally.”

“Let’s hear this,” I say because I think they might be right. I think I screwed up. I let Indy’s mom get into my head and mess me up.

Indy still may deserve a better man than me – one who grew up with a loving family and didn’t spend his childhood scrounging for food – but I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure she never regrets being with me.

Just as soon as I convince her to give me another chance.
