“Okay. In the mornin’ we’ll talk to our parents and other family members to see what they say. Then we’ll go see Andrea and find out what this process entails before we make a final decision. If you still want to do this, then I’m ready to jump on board. As long as you make me one promise here and now,” I tell her, a smile on my face as I continue looking at my beautiful wife.

“What’s that?”

“Let us find our footin’ as parents before we add any other kids to our house. We’ll be busy takin’ care of two little ones if this all goes accordin’ to plan and there won’t be time to add anymore to our family,” I tell her, keeping my smile in place as Brindley stirs on my chest. “In a few years we can add another baby or child to our family, but I’d like it to be just us for a while.”

“I can do that. The only reason Andrea called is because she knows how upset I was about the hysterectomy and not being able to have any more babies. Can we not tell Otter and Willow about this right now? I don’t want to take anything away from them just having their little girl,” she returns, her voice soft so Brindley doesn’t wake up again.

“We can do that. I don’t know how we’ll keep it a secret, but we’ll do our best. Otter and Willow won’t mind though. You know that’s not the kind of people they are. They’d be happy for us,” I tell her gently, knowing my best friend and his wife.

Otter and Willow would be at our side supporting us through the entire process instead of feeling as if we’re stealing their thunder or whatever by possibly bringing this little boy into our lives. Though, I know Quinn good enough to realize that’s something she truly worries about. She doesn’t ever want to upset anyone else for any reason if she can help it. Right now, Willow and Otter are enjoying their little girl and twins. They’re adjusting to becoming parents of three and we’ve been at their side and helped in any way we could. That’s just how we were raised and how we’d be because we’re family. Maybe not by blood, but we’re family, nonetheless.

“I’ll call mom and dad in the morning to see what they think of the idea. Maybe I am being crazy and this isn’t something we should do. I just don’t want to see any little one left behind because their parents weren’t ready to have them.”

My wife has so much fucking love to give and it’s one of the many reasons I fell in love with her so long ago. Now, I just want to be there for her and make sure she’s happy for the rest of her life. If that means bringing multiple kids into our home and giving them the best life we can, then that’s what I’ll do. For now, I’ll settle with two little ones and we’ll see how things go moving forward.

“I love you, Maddox. You make all my dreams come true and have given me a better life than I ever dreamed it could be,” she tells me, moving up to press a kiss against the side of my lips.

“I love you, too. You’re my entire world and I can’t imagine my life without you in it. We’re in this together and will fill our days with as many memories as we can. Now, let’s get some sleep before Brindley wakes up again,” I tell her, continuing to look toward the future with my girls by my side.

Closing my eyes, I keep one arm wrapped firmly around Brindley’s little body where she lays on my chest. My other arm is holding Quinn as she snuggles up to my side and wraps her arm around our daughter and me as much as she possibly can. Falling asleep, I dream of a little boy who completes our family in ways I didn’t believe were possible. He might not be ours by blood, but we’ve learned blood doesn’t always make people family. You can choose who you accept into your life and who gets the boot. This little boy might be the next person we bring into our lives in order to make our entire family whole.

The end . . . . .
