"Have you heard from Autumn today?"

"No. Not since last night.”

I messaged to tell her not to worry. I have no grounds on which to assure her she shouldn’t worry, but I felt she needed to hear those words. There was so much more I wanted to say but I held back because I didn’t know what the situation might be at her house.

“I was hoping she might have told her father about Evan but I didn't ask. She didn't say much in her text either but I knew she was upset.” That’s why I didn't push.

I keep remembering telling her father that I love her. That wasn't how I wanted her to hear those words but at least she knows.

The phone rings on the counter and my nerves jump.

As if I have hellfire blazing across my ass, I rush to get it. When I pick up the phone I'm thankful to see it’s Jericho. I answer quickly, praying with everything in me that he tells me what I want to hear. I glance at Hunter who looks just as eager as me.

"Hey man," I say first. "Please tell me you got something for me."

Jericho chuckles and I feel hopeful. He wouldn’t be laughing if he didn’t have good news.

"I have exactly what you need. Believe me when I say Evan will never play hockey again."

My entire body loosens, sighing with relief, then I find myself and I find my strength.

It's game-on. Time to wreak destruction on my nemesis and get my girl back.

All of Evan's skeletons have fallen out of the closet, screaming his secrets to me.

The envelope I'm carrying contains everything I need to end him. Jericho not only found a contract signed by Evan agreeing to throw the game so the Hawks wouldn't make it to the Cup Series, he also found evidence that Evan had done it before in L.A.

Many of the games his old team lost could have been won. The evidence also includes instances of bribery so he could pass various drug tests when he was high. Then there are occurrences of him assaulting young women and paying them off, or anyone who came forward as witnesses against him. This is more than I ever could have hoped to find.

Feeling like I finally have a chance, I walk up the driveway of Jakobe’s stately home.

The last time I came here I broke in and went through the back. This time I'm going through the front door as a guest.

I called beforehand to speak to Marie, Jakobe’s wife. I've always found her to be approachable and she was honored that I did the interview for her magazine.

When I ring the doorbell, she answers and gives me a kind smile but in her eyes there's worry. I assume that's for Autumn. Earlier when we spoke she told me they were aware of what Evan had done to her. They found out yesterday.

"Hello, Mrs. Jakobe," I say with a polite nod. "Thank you for allowing me to stop by."

"That's okay." She widens her smile. "Shawn is in the living room. I didn’t tell him that you’re coming.”

"That's okay. It's better that way."

"I think so too."

I didn't plan to ambush Jakobe, but I also didn't want to set myself up for a fall. Knowing him he'd probably call a SWAT team on me or his army of black ops forces from hell.

"Is Autumn here?" I ask carefully.

The small smile she gives me is promising. It looks like she's on my side. "Yes, she is. I’m sure she'll be happy to see you."

"Thanks."

"Come on in." She waves me forward.

"Thanks." I’m polite to her, but the fire I have building for her husband will make me look like the devil once I’m done.

We walk into the house and she guides me to the living room, where Jakobe is smoking a cigar and reading the newspaper. When he sees me walk in with his wife, the cigar falls out of his mouth and the rage I witnessed yesterday comes back to his eyes.
