"I'm not selling this place, Autumn."

I gasp. "Really?"

"I've decided I'm going to sell my apartment instead. I'd like you to move in with me here. Then when your sabbatical is over we can get a place in L.A. and I'll go with you. I can always fly back here for training or whatever I'm needed for. That's of course if your dad doesn't kick me off the team."

My mouth drops. I can't believe what I'm hearing. "You would do all of that for me and move?"

"Yes. I'll also give you the two million your father insists on holding onto. All I want you to do is say yes to me."

I stare back at him in disbelief. I feel like I've fallen into a dream, but I know I haven't. This is just what he’s like. The dream guy.I touch his cheek because I know my answer.

"Yes, but you don't have to give me two million dollars." I chuckle. "Although I love you for offering that to me, it's my father who should give me the money I'm owed, not you."

"I know but I don't want you to feel obligated to him for anything. Your inheritance was the reason you came to New York.”

“Yes, but you shouldn't have to give it to me."

"Okay. I understand but the offer is always on the table.” He touches my cheek.

"Thank you. It means the world to me. Also, I've been thinking of transferring to the New York branch ofTheChronicle. I was thinking of staying here."

His face brightens and his eyes light up.

"Were you really?"

"Yes. For you."

"Then stay and we'll do whatever makes you happy."

"You make me happy."

"Then I’m all yours." He pulls me closer.

I laugh and I look around the room. "This is our home, Luc?"

"This is our home." I throw my arms around him and he envelops me in the warmth of our relationship.

I'm happy. I'm actually happy but with that thought comes a sad one from the depths of my heart because I feel like my happiness caused me to lose my father.

I never wanted things to end up like this.

Chapter 34

Luc

The moment the sun came up, my phone buzzed with a message from Shawn Jakobe.

He wants to meet me at his office at nine o'clock.

After the beautiful night I spent with Autumn, I didn't want to leave her, but I agreed. I thought this might be one of those necessary meetings I needed to have with her father.

I arrive on time. When I walk into Jakobe’s office, he's already inside. But so is Evan.

I never expected him to be here. He's sitting in the chair in front of Jakobe with that same condescending smirk he always has on his fucked up face.

I glare at him, then at Jakobe. He has the evidence I gave him on Evan, so why are weallhere together?

“Come and sit, Luc.” Jakobe points to the empty chair across from Evan.
