“Come up with a killer story.” I hold the pillow tighter, as if it can give me the strength I need.

“What if that’s too much for you?”

“It won’t be. Not writing what Itrulywant to write will drive me insane.”

“I see what you mean.”

“And I have a story idea.” I smile with excitement.

Zoe perks up instantly. “Oh my God, what is it?”

“I was reading about that old manor not too far from here where one of the workers found a famous diamond necklace that had been missing for nearly seventy years.”

She sucks in a breath. “Yes. It was in the papers yesterday. The old Vanderville Manor?”

“That’s the one.” I read about it while I was at the airport. “Plus there are all the scandals the papers mentioned happening in that home.”

“Oooo, I love this already.”

“Great. Harvey has arranged for me to check in with him so I sent off a request to him last night to ask if I could potentially do a piece on the manor and its secrets.”

“That stuff is right up your alley.”

“It is. This is the first spark of interest I’ve felt since the accident so I’m hoping Harvey will agree to it.”

“I think he will. That necklace is big news at the moment. And peoplelooovea Hamptons scandal.”

“They sure do.”

“This is great.” The sentimental look in her eyes switches to mischief, a sign she’s come up with some wild idea. “In the meantime, while you wait to write that story of yours we get to hang out with some seriously hot hockey players.”

“I’m sure we’re in for a very interesting time.”

“Imagine all those sweaty, gorgeous, shirtless men in their locker room after a game.” Zoe’s mouth is virtually watering.

The mention of sweaty, gorgeous, shirtless men makes me think of Aries again. I wonder what he’s doing now, or if he even remembers me.

“When you see the guys at the fundraiser you’ll know what I mean,” Zoe continues with a cunning grin.

“I’m sure I will.”

The fundraiser is the first step into my new normal.

I just hope I get through this sabbatical with all the things I want.

I pray so.

Chapter 8

Luc

Iwalk through the large oak wood double doors of the South Port Inn and into the Grecian-inspired foyer where the concierge greets me with a welcoming nod.

I give him the same acknowledgement and proceed down the grand marble-floored hallway leading to the function room.

I’m here for the team’s fundraiser. It’s a luncheon that some of the most notable people and celebs in New York have been invited to.

Friday seemed to sneak up on me quicker than a blink, so I haven’t completely calmed my inner turmoil.
