It’s captivating, but what hooks me more than any view possibly could is the sight of the gorgeous man who tasted every inch of my body last night.

Luc is sitting at a table under a white wood gazebo. Like last night, he’s dressed casually in a long-sleeved gray T-shirt, but today he’s wearing jeans.

On seeing me he sits straighter and smiles.

“I’ll leave you here,” my guide says.

“Thank you,” I reply.

He gives me a curt bow of his graying head, then departs. I continue the rest of the way to Luc and take in the delicious spread of sandwiches and wine set before him.

“You’re here.” Luc stands and meets me when I step into the gazebo.

“I’m here.”

He makes a show of brushing a kiss over my cheek and I can’t help but smile at him.

“Come and sit. We have much to talk about.”

“We do.”

He guides me to sit in the chair he’s already pulled out for me then sits back down opposite me.

“Wine?” He points to the bottle of expensive wine with a French label. It looks similar to what we drank in Vegas.

“Just a little. I can handle a small glass but wine always gets into my system fast.” And since the accident I’m being more careful.

“No worries.” He pours me a half a glass and slides it over to me, then pours himself a full one.

“So, is me being here enough for you to officially give me permission to do the article?” I give him a hopeful look. He seemed to agree in our conversation earlier but I’d love confirmation.

“It is. Guess you’re going to have to come up with something to tell your father. He knows I own this place.”

“I’ll think of something.” I’ll use the excuse of business, just like he said.

“Cool.”

Luc picks up a large wooden storage box from beside him and places it on the table. It looks like something I would have used as a secret treasure box when I was little. The wood is polished and old with an insignia that looks like a fleur-de-lis embossed in the corner.

It’s not that. I’m sure if Luc belonged to something like a secret society I would never see this box.

“This is yours for the moment,” Luc says.

“Really?” My mouth drops in surprise.

“I’m loaning it to you. I figured you can’t write about the house without knowing more about its history. Stuff that’s not on the net.”

“Wow, thank you. What’s inside the box?”

“Very, very old things. Diaries, journals, and other notable things from people who lived and worked here. Your boss made it sound like you wanted to know about more than just the necklace.”

“Yes. All I’ve seen and heard are interesting whispers about some of the events that took place here.”

“My family are very private people and you’re right, a lot happened here, so I hope you don’t plan to do some kind of exposé.”

“Oh no.” I shake my head. “It’s nothing like that. Rest assured, I’ll be completely respectful of your family. I want to do a piece on the mysteries that lie behind the manor and the people who lived here. Of course I’d also love to know more about that necklace. I wantedThe Chronicleto be the first paper to get a real exclusive.”

He gives me a wide grin. “Venus, don’t be an angel now. You wantedTheChronicleto be the first to get the exclusive, or you?”
