Watch her and wait for the perfect moment to approach her.

The instant Jakobe opened his mouth I saw the way Autumn looked.

By the end of that speech I wasn’t surprised that she was ready to flee. And I don’t mean just the party. She looked like she wanted to leaveeverythingbehind. I knew that if her father didn’t have that leverage of her inheritance over her, I’d never see her again.

No one would.

The selfish side of me kicked in, wanting to keep her for myself. That’s how we got here.

All I keep thinking since she’s been with me is that I hope she agrees to our secret relationship. Because tonight isn’t going to be enough for me.

I’ll need more.

I touch her face, pulling her from her deep thoughts, and she smiles.

“How much do I need to bid to hear those thoughts of yours?” I smirk.

Her smile widens and she leans into the wall. “Sorry. I have a bad habit of zoning out sometimes.”

“It’s after two in the morning. Zoning out is expected. Ready to sleep?”

She shakes her head and a determined look solidifies in her eyes. “No. There’s no way I’m sleeping.”

“Are you sure you shouldn’t get some sleep?”

“I’m not tired.”

I trace the outline of her jaw. “I guess that’s good for me, then. I’m not tired either.” We stare at each other for a few moments and since I want her again, I feel like I should saysomething about the way I’ve been taking her. “I know it’s a little late but I’m aware we haven’t beencareful, Autumn.”

Her cheeks color and I wonder if she’s been worried about that, too. “I’m on the pill. Sorry, I should have told you, but I kind of lost track of what we were doing.”

“Me, too. But I’m clean. I just wanted to feel you tonight.” I didn’t want to use a condom. I needed to feel every inch of her passage wrapping around my cock.

“That’s okay. I… wanted to feel you, too.”

“I haven’t been with anyone but you since Vegas, and before that was… three months.” That last time I was so drunk I can’t even remember what happened. The press got a good story on me and some model, and I decided to clean up my playboy image.

“Three months. I’ll bet all those puck bunnies are going crazy.” She gives me a little smile, but I know she isn’t really smiling.

“They can keep going crazy.” I don’t want her thinking of me with other women or that I fuck around like I used to. I haven’t been able to think of being with another woman besides her, and I feel like I won’t ever be able to.

“There has only been you since, um…him.”

She means Cole.

A faraway look enters her eyes and I know she’s thinking about the events of the night again, along with the situation surrounding Cole and her sister.

I also know she’s not thinking about them because she’s still in love with Cole.

She already told me so and I believed her.

Earlier, I saw for myself what the real problem is. It’s that everyone chooses her sister. Even when her sister is in the wrong.

My family is ruthless but not heartless. There’s no fucking way that sort of betrayal would happen in my family and it be brushed under the rug. If it did, they’d at least be respectful.

Autumn looks away from me but I guide her back to face me and keep my hand on her chin.

“Why me, Luc?” Her voice is low and full of pain. “Women line up for hours just to get a chance to see you. They’re models, princesses and socialites everyone loves. All of them beautiful. So, why me?”
