“Your father had this crazy thought that Luc has taken a liking to you, but I assured him that you really like Evan so he has nothing to worry about.”

“Evan has really grown on me,” I lie through my teeth and smile. “I look forward to getting to know him a little more.”
Mom grins, looking so happy for me I almost feel bad.
“I think he’s been good for you.”

Dear God and the universe, I’m so sorry for my lies, past, present, and future, but like an animal on the Serengeti trying to protect what’s theirs, I plan to play the game in whatever ways I need to safeguard my freedom.

As soon as I step through the door, I get a message from Luc.

Holy hell. My skin is on fire.
I stare at the words and think back to all we did during our getaway at the Astoria, to him eating me out on his breakfast table.

Autumn
Itwirl around in my dress and smile when I look at myself in the bedroom mirror.
I’m wearing a black bodycon with diamantes splashed over the top that complement the diamond studs in my ears.
I have on glossy red lipstick, red stilettos, and my hair is loose in long waves down to my waist.
I look and feel like I’m ready to walk the runway at Fashion Week in Paris or some extravagant location.
Luc and I are having our first real date outside of the manor. I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself. We’re two weeks into our relationship and everything is amazing.
“You look absolutely stunning.” Zoe beams, waving her perfect manicured fingernails in the air. She’s sitting on the edge of my bed, watching me with approval of my attire and my plans to see the hot hockey god.
