I laugh and wave back. Rising to my feet, I collect the dishes and carry them inside. What a friendly young woman Maeve is. She may resemble her brother in looks, but her personality couldn’t be more different.

Will she tell Niall she had dinner with me? And if she does, what will he say? It’s not like he can forbid his adult sister from coming over.

And the unexpected Destiny news she dropped on me still has me reeling. I’m curious about how long they were together. And what is it that broke them up?

CHAPTER 7

NIALL

I come homefrom practice and find a plate of stuffed shells and meatballs waiting for me on the stove. “Who made this?” I call out to my brother and sister, sitting at the island, eating dinner.

“Rogan tried to make it, but he needed my help,” Maeve says.

“Hey, I could’ve figured it out alone, but you came running home,” Rogan defends.

“Where were you?” I ask.

“Over at Lucy’s house,” she says, taking another bite of the cheesy pasta.

“Lucy, my neighbor?”

“Yep. That one. She’s awesome.”

I lean against the counter and cross my arms. “How did you end up at her house?”

“I walked over.”

I sigh. “Okay, smartass.”

“She was on her porch having a VROOM meeting for work, and I was outside watering the flowers. I waited until she closed her laptop and introduced myself.”

“Why?”

“Because that’s what you do when you’re new to the neighborhood.”

“But you don’t live here,” I say.

She smiles. “I do this week.”

“How old is she?” Rogan asks.

“Thirty-five.”

“Is she hot?” he asks.

“What does that matter?” I ask.

“Yes, she is. If I were a lesbian, I’d totally do her,” Maeve says, and a choking sound escapes my throat. Her eyes flit to me. “What? You’ve met her.”

“Why am I hearing about the hot neighbor from Maeve and not you, bro?” Rogan asks.

“Stop calling her hot,” I say.

Maeve’s eyebrows lower. “Why? Does it bother you?”

Yes, it does. I don’t want Rogan to get any ideas about hitting on her.

“It’s disrespectful,” I say.
