I lick a crumb from the corner of my mouth before replying, “I’d love one, but I better not.”

“I’ll make sure you get home safely,” he says, his masculine lips hinting at a smile.

“Okay, but I can make it myself.”

“I’ll take care of it.” He rises. “Anyone else need anything?”

“I’d love another eggnog and rum,” Maeve says.

“A beer would be great,” Rogan jumps in. I expect Niall to refuse, but he heads to the kitchen without a word.

“Will he let you have a beer?” I ask.

Rogan nods. “He likes to bust my balls, but he knows I have access to booze anytime I want at school.”

“How long are you on break for?” I ask.

“Three more weeks. I’m meeting my friends in Vail next week and then I’m visiting our parents.”

“Lucky you. Sounds like you’ll have a great winter break,” I say.

He smiles. “That’s the plan.”

I turn to Maeve. “What about you?”

“I’m planning to set up some interviews in Charleston for this week. If I get a job offer, I'll also look for an apartment.”

Niall walks back into the room. “You can stay with me as long as you need.”

“I don’t want to be in your way,” she says.

He passes out the drinks. “You won’t be.”

She nods. “Okay. Let me see what happens. I may not get an interview.”

Rogan sits back, crossing his ankle over his knee, and pulls deeply from the beer in his hand. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand. “Lucy, I've been curious about how you became the host of a show about Bigfoot.”

“I promise, it’s not that interesting.”

“I’d like to hear the story too,” Niall says.

How can I refuse when he’s been on his best behavior tonight?

“As an only child, I read a lot of books.”

“So you were a nerdy little thing?” Rogan asks. Maeve reaches behind me to slap his arm.

“Oh, for sure. I even had glasses.”

“You wear glasses?” Rogan asks.

“Yep, when I don’t want to wear my contacts, I do.”

“I bet you look like a naughty librarian in them,” Rogan says, smiling and nodding simultaneously.

“Rogan, that’s enough,” Niall scolds with enough bass in his voice to silence his brother.

“As a kid, I liked reading about legends, and Bigfoot was one of my favorites.Harry and the Hendersonsis still one of my favorite movies.”
