I laugh. “You’re not too hungry.” I set the silverware down.

“This is so fucking delicious.” He pops one more piece in his mouth before he picks up the fork.

I take a bottle of water from the fridge and place it in front of his plate.

While he eats, I putter around the kitchen, wiping down the counters and putting the clean dishes away. I can’t find anything else to do. Between Maeve and him, the house stays clean.

When he’s done eating, he places his plate in the dishwasher.

“Thank you. That hit the spot.” He wraps his arms around me, burying his face in the curve of my neck. He inhales deeply. “I love the way you smell.”

“What do I smell like?” I ask, curious what he’ll say.

“Sunshine and flowers.”

I smile. That sounds pretty accurate. I spend a lot of time outdoors and my shampoo is a floral scent.

“Don’t forget you have that interview tomorrow afternoon,” I say.

“Fuck me,” he growls. “I had forgotten. What would I do without you? You take such good care of me.”

“I think we take care of each other. Balance is important in a relationship,” I say.

“I’m a hockey player. I have incredible balance,” he jokes.

I caress the back of his head. “What do you say I tuck you in your bed before I go home?”

“I want you to tuck yourself in my bed with me and not go home.”

“I want the same, but I don’t feel right about staying here while Maeve is here.”

He raises his head. “Jesus, Lucy. She’s twenty-four, not twelve.”

“I know, but it might be gross for her.”

His forehead creases. “What’s gross about us?”

“Thinking about your sibling having sex would begross, right?”

“Yeah, that’s true. But we don’t have to do anything sexual. I just want to hold you and fall asleep with you in my arms.”

“How can I argue with that? Go get ready for bed and I’ll be right in.”

“Okay, but don’t be long,” he says.

I shake my head. “I won’t.”

I make sure the back door is locked and then I check the front door too. I stop next to Maeve’s open door and peek my head in. “I’m staying over, but don’t worry, there will be no hanky panky going on.”

She laughs. “Thanks for clarifying that.”

“I didn’t want things to be weird with me staying over,” I explain.

“You don’t need to worry about that. Niall is happier than I’ve ever seen him. You can stay over every night if you’d like.”

He’s happier than she’s ever seen him?

“I still like my space, so it won’t be every night. But I love being with your brother too.”
