“Do I get credit for setting the two of you up?” she asks.

“But you didn’t set us up.”

She arches an eyebrow. “Didn’t I? Why do you think I invited you over for Christmas Eve dinner?”

“Because you wanted to be my new bestie?”

“Well, yeah, that, and I thought you’d be perfect for Niall.” Her lips curl with satisfaction.

My mouth falls open. “I feel like everything’s a lie.”

“Don’t be dramatic. You got a boyfriend and I got a bestie. All is well.”

“Good point,” I say.

“Lucy!” Niall shouts.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“What’s that? You want to make me breakfast?” Maeve calls out as I leave her room.

Niall’s in bed watching television. “I’ll be right there.”

“That’s what you said ten minutes ago,” he grumbles.

I close the bathroom door. “Mr. Grumpalupagus makes an appearance,” I whisper, wetting my toothbrush. I add some toothpaste and give my teeth a good brushing. When I return to the bedroom Niall is sleeping. I strip down to my t-shirt and underwear and climb under the covers beside him. I move over and wrap my arm across his stomach. It’s surreal to think that in a matter of weeks, this man has changed my world for the better. If anyone had told me this is where I’d be at this moment in time, I would’ve laughed in their face. But we don’t get to pick who we love or when it happens.

And now I don’t want it to ever end.

Niall removes one hand from the steering wheel and places it on my leg. “Don’t freak out on me but?—”

I cut him off. “Starting a sentence with those words doesn’t exactly inspire calm.”

“I get that. So I got an email this morning from the station regarding the interview.” He keeps his eyes on the road.

“And?”

“They want you to be a part of the interview also.”

“No.”

“Come on.”

“No.”

“Please?”

“Niall, why didn’t you tell me before we left the house? I would’ve taken more time with my appearance.”

“You look beautiful to me.”

“I’m not worried about you. It’s the millions of other people who watch the show I’m concerned with.”

“There’s nothing to worry about. I promise everything will be fine.”

“But what if they ask about our engagement and I say the wrong thing?”

“You won’t. You have actual television experience. Just pretend you’re filming your show.”
