“Two hundred and fifty million.”

The table erupts with a dozen curses.

Anya grimaces. “Maybe we should—”

“No, we are not canceling our wedding.”

“We can always reschedule.”

“Do you really want to deal with all of this again?”

“It’s your life, Nico.”

“We’ll increase security. Any luck on locating where the order came from?” Bash asks.

“Not yet, but I’m close.”

* * *

It’s a rare occurrence for my wife and I to be home before 8 p.m. lately, let alone lounging on the couch, but here we are, working in comfortable silence. With Enzo taking on more responsibility, it’s allowed me to focus on security and be there regularly.

We’d receive the call shortly after we left the dim sum restaurant from the DNA analyst that Grayson and Anya indeed do share enough genetics to be half-siblings.

Anya insisted she was fine, but with the wedding events, we haven’t had time to actually talk about it. I know what she’s thinking, though. Keeping this a secret isn’t an option. I won’t lie and say I’m not worried about how the Triad men will take it.

Today was exactly what the both of us needed, a day without work or any other distractions. After dim sum, we came home and tried watching a movie, but that turned into sex. Anya was feeling better and wanted tomake it up to mefor passing out last night after making a million promises of all the dirty things she planned to do to me. Then we laid in bed and napped before enjoying a casual dinner.

We put the movie back on, but neither of us pay attention. We are struggling not to pull our laptops out and start working. Anya is leaning against my side but turned, so she has her feetup. Her eyes travel aimlessly around the room, which is her tell when she makes up scenarios in her mind.

I lean over to kiss the top of her head. “Spit it out.”

“What?”

Her head shoots up to look at me.

I chuckle. “I can barely hear the movie. Your thoughts are so loud.”

“You weren’t watching it anyway.” She rolls her eyes.

“Tell me what’s wrong so I can fix it.”

“I was just thinking about how to handle Grayson. If it’d be wise to bring him into the business or if it’ll be the worst decision of my life.”

“Well, you won’t know more until you talk to him. You don’t even know if he’d want this, so you don’t have to decide right now.”

When she doesn’t respond, I continue. “Let’s talk it through. What could his angle be?”

She sighs. “He said he just wanted to introduce himself and hoped to get to know me. Itseemedgenuine, but maybe he’s one hell of an actor. Anything can happen when a significant amount of money is on the line. Or a potential career opportunity.”

“What do youwantto do?”

She ponders but then shakes her head. “I need to give it time. You’re right, I should get to know him first.”

“Can you repeat that?” I nudge her with my shoulder.

“I’ll get to know him,” she answers, knowing exactly what I’m trying to do.

“Beforethat,” I prod.
