“Who do you think you—”

“Don’t cross me. I’m not a compassionate man. A Liu heir was promised to me. You will marry my son, or there will be severe consequences. Consider yourself warned,” he says as he looks at Bash. “Oh, and you might want to check your phone. You cost me billions. It’s only fair I do the same. Show them out.” He moves to exit through a door behind shelves.

He doesn’t get to have the last word.

I stand, causing the chair to drag on the floor. “You don’t get to come intomyterritory and lecture me about consequences, Caishen.” He pauses but doesn’t turn around. “If you knew my father, then you knew exactly what he was capable of. We’re cut from the same cloth. I am my father’s daughter as well as Cesare Violante’s. You’d do well to remember that.”

He stands, motionless, but only for a second before he exits.

The veins in my husband’s neck and forehead are about to burst.

“Motherfucker,” Nico grits out.

* * *

“This is a load of crap!” I yell as I punch Caishen three times in the face before landing a kick into his gut.

Or—where his gut would be if it were real.

Kai thought it would be fun to print out pictures of the asshole and tape them to the punching bags. Not gonna lie: it works. After the meeting, I had a lot of tension to get rid of, so I came to the gym Jimmy opened when he relocated out here. A lot of Triad men and women work out here, so it feels safe enough.

“We will deal with him,” Bo assures me as he holds up boxing pads for me to hit.

“Are there any more surprises I should know about?” I ask Bo before striking combos into the pads on his hands. I might still be holding a small grudge that he didn’t tell me about Grayson sooner. “First, a brother. Now, what, a fiancé?”

Tao chuckles. “Don’t let your husband hear that, boss.”

“This is ridiculous. My father wrote me a whole letter, but he didn’t think to let me know about either of these.”

“He likely assumed you and Grayson would grow up together. And it wasn’t a done deal with Caishen. He’s not arational man,” Bo tries to reason, which only makes me want to hit him harder.

“Rational or not, he’s extremely powerful.”

Even I can admit that. I’m not naive enough to think this man doesn’t mean harm.

“If it means anything, I don’t believe for a second your father would have agreed to it. Your father was a methodical man. He could’ve just been entertaining Caishen to see what the asshole really wanted. Your father could doa lotof damage with very little information and was a great negotiator,” Bo answers proudly as he speaks about his closest friend.

Even loyal to this day. It’s why I respect him so much.

“Let’s consider for a minute what exactly he means byconsequencesif I don’t give in.”

“Lives,” Kai answers plainly, eyebrows pinched.

“Thought so,” I grumble.

“The only way out of this is if we take him out or offer something better,” Bo adds before going back to my training.

Chapter Sixteen

NICO

Letting the hot water hit my body and soothe my aching muscles, I think about today’s revelations. Even the thought of Anya being with someone else puts me in a blind rage.

Caishen blew up several of our shipments heading for Europe and South America. Sorting this would take months. A fucking nightmare.

I’ve spent my days since our wedding night trying to dig up anything I can on the bastard to no avail. He’s good at covering his tracks. The Gohs are a powerful family, even I can admit that. But I’m not one to give up. Everyone makes mistakes, and I’m determined to uncover every single one of his. I’ve even looked into his little shit, Xander, but the internet was scrubbed of anything important.

Unease fills me. I don’t like not knowing anything about my opponent.
