“Where the fuck is my daughter!”
“Belonging. Freedom. Fun. Can you guess the last two?”
A sinister smile takes over his face.
I glance at my adoptive parents, Ethan, and sweet Dot, who’s still screaming.
“Power and survival,” he finishes.
“Get to your point, Caishen,” I demand.
“Kill him. What are you waiting for!”
“Do not shoot, Anya. My daughter is in there!”
“I told you not to cross me. In fact, I warned you.” Caishen cuts through the noise. “I have the power here. I will kill every person who is of importance to you, and I will kill every loved one of your precious Triad until they all turn on you. You will have no one to blame but your own selfishness.”
I hear the click of the safety.
“Sky isn’t answering her phone. Fuck, something is wrong.”
“I’m taking the guards out,”Nico booms before the sound of three bodies falling hits us.
Caishen glances up before returning his gaze back to mine and smiles.
“It’s party time!” he sing-songs.
The first shot goes off, and Jet falls to the floor. Nora lets out an ear-piercing cry and falls with him, holding him in her arms. Dot flails in the man’s arms, but her efforts are futile.
I open my mouth, but nothing comes out.
“Don’t waste my time. You know what I want. It’s that easy. You can save them all. What’s it going to be?” Caishen laughs as he sings the Jeopardy theme song.
“I’m coming in!”Nico yells right before he rushes into the room we’re in.
A second shot goes off, causing Nico to jerk, but he doesn’t fall over.
“No!” I rush for my husband, putting my hand over the gunshot wound on his arm to stop the bleeding.
The third shot rings out. I spin my head around to find Nora’s body slump over Jet’s.
“Relax, I only grazed him,” Caishen sneers.
“Get my fucking kid! I swear to God I’m going to kill this motherfucker!”
“You can’t go in there, man. You’ll make it worse!”Kai screams, trying to reason with Tao.
“Anya, who else is in there?”
My mouth has gone dry.
“What the fuck,” Nico grits.
“What’s it going to be, Anya?” Caishen moves to stand eye to eye in front of Ethan.
“Don’t give in,” Ethan says with pleading eyes. “You won’t get away with this. I stand with the Lius,” Ethan says as he closes his eyes.
“Ethan!”Kai yells.
