“You're going to leave, no matter what, aren't you?” Her whisper stings my very skin. I hate seeing her so cut up like this. I nod, and her head drops. She shrugs and tries to move away, but I stop her again. “What’s the point if it won’t stop you from going?” Her light voice reminds me just how inexperienced she is. Only me. It's a hell of a thing to know that.

“I need this.” I hold her dejected eyes with my own pleading ones. “I'm not a person I like, Holly,” I admit gruffly. “I need time and space to sort myself out.”

“I understand.”

“Tell me why you're here?”

“I can’t.” Her cheeks are a dark shade of pink. I lift my hand and tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Still the shy woman I fell in love with. You never could vocalise these things.” Something has always stopped her from voicing her sexual desires outside of the act. It’s one of the things I loved about her. “Would I be right in thinking you came here to see if what we shared all those years ago is still there?”

Big blue piercing eyes stare innocently up at me. “Yes.”

“We didn’t dream it up, Holly, it was real. No woman made me feel like you did. Not in all these years,” I confess shakily. I cup her face and let my eyes convey my sincerity.

Her smile is sad, nostalgic, but determination swirls in her pupils. Her shoulders straighten and she sucks in a breath. “I want one last night with you.”

Thank fuck.

“Are you sure?” I search her gaze. Her hand splays on my chest, her fingers shifting ever so slightly. When she nods, I say, “Good, come and dance with me.” That shocks her. She blinks but follows me out into the back garden and I instruct my soundbar to play some music. It's late, and above the sky is velvet black, dotted with pinprick stars. “Do you remember that night at the lookout at Hill Top Farm?” I ask, taking her hand and twisting her into me so her back is to my front.

Her breath leaves in a rush and the back of her head rubs against my chest when she nods. “We danced,” she whispers.

“Until the stars wore out. That's what you asked, for me to dance with you until the stars wore out.” I angle my head so I can whisper directly into her ear. She shivers, and I smile, knowing this alone is enough to make her desire me. I begin to move my body slowly to the side, and she moves with me, her head twisted to look up at the stars.

“Do you ever feel like something, or someone, is working against us? Otherworldly?” She laughs lightly, but it turns sad.

I bring my arms around her, holding her close. I shut my eyes and inhale. “Every damn day, Holly. For years, I asked myself what I did so wrong for this to happen to me, but it just is. It’s done and we can't change it.”

“No. I guess not.”

I grasp her wrist and spin her out and back in so she is facing me. Her face is split into a grin, and I have every intention of taking advantage of what's in front of me. I cup her chin, and she bites her lip in anticipation. “One hell of a love story, though?” I smile, and she nods, her eyes tearing up. “You’re so beautiful.”

“So are you.”

“I was going for a more manly vibe.” I pout, making her giggle. I stare at her mouth. “I'm going to kiss you. Are you ready?”

“Very.”

I bloody hope so, because I'm not sure I am. I know without a shadow of a doubt this woman will knock all previous conquests out of the water. I'm not ready for the intensity, but I crave it. I'm not ready for the pain of walking away from the best moment of my life, but I need it more than my next breath. I drop my mouth and dance my lips across hers, trailing them back and forth. As soon as I press my lips to hers, she gives a little sob and I sweep my tongue in. Home. Can someone taste of home? Holly does. Her arms move up to hook around my neck, and we kiss our way through the next song. I'm not rushing this. I want her, every inch she will give, until it’s all mine to take.

“It’s getting cold,” I hum against her swollen lips. I tug her back towards the house. The music is louder now so I turn it low and rest back against the island. “Come here.” She moves and presses up to kiss me. “Do you want a drink?” I ask out of politeness.

“No. Just you.” Her finger runs along my lower lip. I take hold of her hand and kiss her fingertips. The song changes, andHolly’s eyes blaze into mine. I pull her close and tuck her into my shoulder, dancing with her. Our fingers twine, and she watches as I run my fingers and thumb all over her delicate palm, taking a physical inventory of her. Her other hand is twiddling with the fine hair at the base of my neck. I sigh, feeling a sense of soul deep calm.

“I dread nighttime,” I whisper over the music. “This is the first night I haven’t felt like the walls are closing in.” Holly brings our hands to her mouth and kisses my palm.

“Take me to bed, Cam.” Turning her head, she keeps our hands close and awaits my answer. When I don’t respond immediately, she uses our connected hands to pull me towards the stairs.

I go without a word. She walks down the long hallway and slows at a door. I shake my head and we carry on. Each door she slows at, I shake my head until we reach the furthest doors. “Left.”

Holly clicks the door shut behind us and lets out a shuddering breath. She’s nervous. When her shaky fingers move to unbutton her dress, I act quickly and stop her. I want to do that. Sensing the tension in her, I begin to undress first, slipping my shirt over my head and unbuttoning my fly. She watches me with big, glazed eyes. As soon as I'm down to my boxers, I move towards her and grab her dress between my thumb and forefinger. “Cameron.” Her hands dance over mine.

“Trust me, I know.” I smile slowly.

“Please.”

I'm unhurried in my actions. Slipping each button through the material of her dress in a slow but accurate move. As soon as I have enough buttons undone, I slip it off her shoulders and take in her creamy skin and lace bra. Dusky nipples dare me to remove her underwear, but I want to savour her. Her dress slides off and her hands lift to cover her lower stomach.
