His nose nuzzles my neck, and warm fuzzies snake down my body.

I rub my sleepy eyes. “You too.”

VISIT

Iwake up snuggled next to Eros. His long, muscular arm is slung around my waist, and my face is resting against his chest. I take a moment to appreciate his heartwarming springtime scent. Today, his natural perfume reminds me of freshly baked ice cream cones and running through sprinklers with glee.

I soak up the warmth of his skin and then wiggle to wake up my body.

“Morning, sunshine.” Eros presses a kiss to the top of my head.

I grin so hard my face aches. This feeling of contentment is new for me, so is the feeling of being cherished. I could get used to something like this.

I always thought I was content with my relationship with Carl, but even when we occasionally hug, it doesn’t give me the secure feeling that allows me to one-hundred-percent be myself.

Eros gives me that.

What does that say about what I have with Carl?

Is that a fair comparison though? Eros was honest about our boundaries, or lack thereof, and our dynamic is much different. It isn’t like something could develop between Eros and me. He’sthe god of love, teaching me how to dismantle my walls so I can be in a positive relationship, to be a good matchmaker.

Who knows? I might relax enough to accept Carl’s affection if he wants to give it to me.

Carl and I have history. Simply put, he rejected me. However, I’m not mad at him for not wanting me. After all, our friendship has worked alright for us for years. Friends with benefits of a different kind—companionship without sex.

Whoops. How long have I been lost in my thoughts?

I offer Eros a wide grin. “Good morning. What are we doing today?”

“What do you usually do on a normal day?”

I hum thoughtfully. “I usually have breakfast with Carl. If I don’t have a photo shoot, I sometimes take a hike or do yoga. Then, if I’m feeling artsy, I find a new place to take pictures. A few times a month, I might go to the Burger Love Shack. For my nights, Carl and I alternate cooking dinner. We talk about world events and maybe watch some TV.”

“He never takes you out?” Eros asks, his forehead crinkling in confusion.

“No.” I huff. “He’s more of a homebody than I am.”

We’re still lying in bed, with Eros holding me against his firm body. He nuzzles the crook of my neck and asks, “Do you like to travel?”

“I do,” I answer wistfully, thinking how Carl and I aren’t compatible in that sense. Maybe he would change if we were officially together, but it doesn’t seem likely.

“Then let’s get ready!” Eros announces happily.

With one almost impossible maneuver, he scoops me up with him and sets me on my feet. It’s a whirlwind of movement and I stand dazed by the side of my bed, registering that the day has begun.

“Okay.” I eye the sexily rumpled love god smiling down at me, then I run my fingers through his bed head and smooth it down. “I suppose I shouldn’t bother dressing myself, huh?”

“You’re a very smart lady.” Eros winks. “Just do all the maintenance stuff you like to do, such as brushing your hair and teeth.”

“I don’tliketo do it, I have to,” I say in a dry tone. “I’m mortal, remember?” I roll my eyes.

“I forget, since you have such an etheric beauty, love.”

Smiling, I shake my head at him. “Such a damn flirt.”

As I withdraw to my bathroom, he hops back into bed and closes his eyes like he’s about to take a nap.
