Anastasia’s admission left me with an ache that was hard to ignore. It was as if our connection had been held by a fragilethread, and now it dangled precariously, liable to break at any given moment.

I sighed.

Hearing my suspicions spoken aloud was far too sobering, and I desperately didn’t want to be sober anymore. Lifting my glass, I chugged the rest of my beer and got up out of my chair, filling it again to the brim.

The dark liquid was a silent companion in my quest to chase away the doubt and confusion that threatened to consume me.

One drink turned into two, two into three, and before I knew it, I was lost in the hazy embrace of Guinness, my thoughts swimming in a sea of blurred emotions. I drowned my sorrows to the best of my ability, and then I drowned them some more.

As the night wore on and the numbing effects of the beer took hold, a persistent thought began to claw its way to the forefront of my mind. I couldn’t escape the nagging concern that Caden might be just as affected by the current situation as I was.

Did he like her too? Were we both losing our minds over the same girl?

I knew that despite the complexities of this newfound situation, we were still family, and it was in times like these that we needed each other the most.

Whatever was happening, we would deal with it together.

With unsteady steps, I pushed my chair back, and went upstairs to try to find my brother. After searching a few rooms, I found him sitting at the kitchen table, with his own pint of Guinness in his hands.

“I’ve been looking for you,” I spoke quietly. It sounded more ominous than I would have liked, but I didn’t know how else to begin.

“Connor,” Caden replied, a faint but sincere smile on his lips. “I figured you’d find your way here.”

“You know, I have to say, brother, I thought the family business was complicated, but this… this… takes the cake,” I began.

“Well, at least we’re handling it in true Irish fashion,” Caden raised his glass in a mock toast.

I chuckled, my gaze a little heavy-lidded as I clinked my glass with his.

“True enough,” I smirked. There was a certain sadness in his eyes, and I sat down beside him and sighed. We needed to talk, and it needed to be now.

“So, about Anastasia… Did something happen between you two?” I asked quietly.

He visibly flinched right in front of me, and I cocked my head, more curious now than ever.

“I spanked her,” Caden admitted, his expression bashfully guilty.

“You what?” I pressed, confused.

“She was refusing to stay at the safehouse, so I did the only thing I could think of,” he confessed.

“You spanked her because she was being naughty?” I snorted. My initial sorrow was immediately chased away with raw amusement, and I couldn’t help but chuckle softly under my breath.

“Yeah,” he answered, looking even more bashful now that he’d admitted it.

“That’s it?” I questioned, cocking my head with interest.

“That’s it,” he confessed.

“So, how was it?” I asked, lifting my eyebrows suggestively.

“You’re not mad?” he asked quickly. His eyes jerked up to meet mine, searching and worried, and I shook my head. I wasn’t angry, not even the slightest bit.

“If you spanked her, then she probably deserved it,” I countered, unable to stop myself from imagining the whole thing happening right in front of me.

Fuck. That would have been really hot to see in real life.

I shifted in my seat, suddenly very aware of how fucking hot it would be to watch the two of them together like that. My balls squeezed and I shifted forward, trying my best to ignore the deep ache at the base of my cock.
