“What? It’s a compliment!”

Rolling his eyes, Holt slipped his arm around my waist and led me to the door. “Ready to go watch?”

I grinned at him, sliding my hand under the back of his suit jacket. “Uh-huh.”

“Hold up, lemme just grab my charger,” Larkin said from behind us. Holt stopped and glanced back.

“You can finish early, Lark. Go get yourself a drink or hang out with the wrestlers backstage.”

“No shit? Shweet, I—Wait.” He narrowed his eyes at us. “Is this because you wanna bone in the private box?”

I went red as Holt sighed in irritation and asked, “Are you seriously arguing about finishing early on a Friday?”

“Obv not. I’m just wondering.”

“No, we are not going to bone in the private box.” Holt’s hand slid down and squeezed my ass as he said it. “Enjoy your evening. Just don’t get too drunk, for fuck’s sake. Your mom will kill me if we have to deliver you home barely coherent again.”

“That was one time, and it was on my birthday, and it was Val’s fault. She is literally impossible to keep up with.”

“So maybe don’t try and keep up with the two hundred and fifty pound Valkyrie who was practically raised on mead. Just be sensible, okay? For once?” Holt turned us back toward the door. “Keep an eye on him, Seb,” he added in a mutter as we passed the werewolf outside the door.

I heard a tiny sigh, before Seb said in a flat voice, “Will do, boss.”

“So.” Holt grinned over at me as we walked down the corridor. “How was your day?”

I chuckled. “You know how my day was. We were texting for most of it.”

“Yeah, but I’m still interested. I just like hearing you talk.”

I flushed, my fingers tightening on Holt’s side under his suit jacket. I didn’t think I was an interesting person, so I wasn’t used to anyone being interested in me. I’d dutifully listened to Marcus complain about his job, but his eyes had always glazed over when I did the same.

“Well, Tim from HR definitely thinks I’m trying to woo Sharon from Accounts now.” I chuckled. “He brought in cupcakes for everyone today, which he’s never done before, and told Sharon he’d ordered a lemon one especially for her, because he knows it’s her favourite.”

“So Sharon from Accounts is the sicko with the lemon cake preference. Stay away from her.”

I laughed and glanced over at him. “Hey, when you were in the office those times… did you spot anyone who isn’t human? I swear I’m looking at everyone now, just wondering.”

Holt huffed in amusement. “All your colleagues are human.”

“Oh, okay. How common are… um, non-humans?”

He shrugged. “Not all that common, but there are probably some of us in every major city. And when some of us start opening businesses and stuff, it draws others to the area, and then communities form.”

That made sense. Licking my lips, I nervously asked, “Is there a… monster Mafia?”

He glanced over at me with a wry smile. “You mean like the one you thought I was the head of when we met?”

I grinned and gave his side a gentle squeeze. “Yeah, but now I know you’re not.”

“I was kind of flattered, actually. Do I come across as intimidating?” He tossed back his long, silky hair.

“I mean… once you started talking about your testicles, you were a little less intimidating.”

“You love my testicles, Taylor,” he purred, leaning over to nuzzle my cheek.

I laughed, my cheeks going pink. “I really do. I can’t wait to see them again later.”

“And I can’t wait to put them in your mouth.” He grinned over at me. “Assuming you want them in your mouth, that is.”
