His eyes went a little unfocused as we walked toward Holt’s office. He clearly was imagining it. His Adam’s apple bobbed, before he cleared his throat and shot me a grin. “You excited to watch the wrestling again, bro?”

I chuckled. “For sure. Holt wouldn’t tell me the line-up so it’d be a surprise.”

“It’s a dope line-up, dude,” Larkin said enthusiastically. “He really pulled out all the stops to impress you. You must have a magic dick, bro. Or bussy.”

I choked on a breath. “Larkin, that’s… like, really inappropriate.”

“It’s a compliment!” He nudged me with his elbow as we approached the office door. Seb was standing outside it in his werewolf form this time. “I’d be proud as fuck if someone said I had a magic bussy. Or whatever the fae version is. A fussy? Fabussy? Hi, Seb.”

The muscle under Seb’s eye twitched very slightly. He nodded at us. “Larkin. Taylor.”

“Hi, Seb.” I gave him an apologetic smile.

“Hey, Seb, would you beat someone up for Holt?” Larkin asked suddenly.

Seb’s lupine forehead creased into a slight frown. “Uh… I guess if he asked me to.”

“Seriously?” Larkin was staring at him. “What if they had, like… a crowbar? Or one of those flippy knives?”

Seb side-eyed him as he opened the door and stepped out of the way. “I’d be fine.”

“What if they were coming for me, not Holt?”

“Why would someone be coming at you with a crowbar, Larkin?” he asked dryly.

“Because maybe they’re trying to blackmail Holt or something, and they know the way to do it would be by kidnapping his beloved assistant. How much do you think Holt would pay to get me back?”

“Um… I don’t think that’s how hostage situations work,” I said doubtfully. “They wouldn’t let Holt decide how much to pay—”

“Probably a couple million, right? I think I’m worth at least a mil. I’m a ray of sunshine, dude. I brighten up this place like no one else.”

“That’s… true,” I agreed hesitantly, while Seb just watched Larkin in silence.

“So would you?” he asked the werewolf.

After a pause, Seb sighed. “If someone was coming at you with a crowbar to kidnap you for the purpose of blackmailing Holt, then yeah. I’d beat them up.”

“Noice.” Larkin held out his fist for a bump. Seb just stared down at it and didn’t move.

“Is Holt in his office?” I asked, taking a step through the door.

Larkin shrugged as he dropped his hand and followed me. “Dunno. Probs. Just go in.”

“What if he’s on a call or something?”

“Bro, he won’t care if it’s you. Just go in.”

Before I could make it to Holt’s office door, it opened and he stepped out, fiddling with a cufflink. At the sight of me, his face lit up into a huge grin.

“Hi.” He strode swiftly toward me and planted a firm kiss on my mouth, then murmured, “You bring the hat, cowboy?”

“It’s in my car.” I gave him a sheepish smile, my belly flipping with excitement when his pink eyes gleamed.

“Excellent.” He stepped back and ran his gaze down my frame, mouth quirking into a secret smile when he saw my T-shirt. “Nice outfit, handsome.”

Larkin nodded in agreement from his desk. “Really brings out your nips, dude.”

I resisted the urge to cover my chest like a pin-up model as Holt huffed. “Shut up, Lark.”
