“Kitten.” Her body collides with mine just as a nurse makes her way into the room. My weak arms wrap around her as Havoc comes over to sit on the bed beside me.

“I heard you were planning to leave us?” I say with my brows pinched. I don’t know what it was that woke me, but I know I heard him say he was leaving.

“So you can have her all to yourself?” His grin widens as he reaches for me. “No way, bro. I’m here to stay.”

My heart rate finally seems to calm down when Alexi mentions calling his father. How long have I been out to make them all seem so worried?

“Hey, Arrow?” Alexi calls out, pushing open the door.

“Yeah?” I ask, dumbfounded that the kid is even talking to me. I thought he hated me.

“Do me a favor and fix that.” He gestures to the two people clinging to me, and I can’t help but squeeze them a little tighter. My hands feel frail, but I put all my strength behind it.

Once everyone leaves, Laney stops crying into my shoulder, finally settling into my side. Soon enough, her breathing regulates. Nurses have tried to come in and remove her so that they could check me over, but one look from Havoc had them backing down.

Between her sobs, Havoc was able to explain to me that I’ve been asleep for nearly two months. I feel exceptionally weak, especially coupled with the fact that I'm not allowed to consume anything but water until they run more tests. My stomach grumbles, and I’m acutely aware of its emptiness.

“How long has she been here?” I ask. My voice is even weak. I detest it. Havoc doesn’t seem to care though as he clutches onto my hand for dear life.

“She spent a week with Evie while she recovered, but other than that, she’s been here.”

“What?” I jolt in surprise, disturbing Laney. She hardly moves though, just squeezes me tighter and falls right back to sleep. I run a few fingers affectionately through her hair. “Why didn’t you make her go home?”

He laughs as if I’ve told a joke. “All of us tried. Evie was able to get her to stay the night at her place once, but that was as far as any of us got. Her new little friendAkiocomes here to see her and will take her down for coffee, but that’s about it.”

My poor girl looks utterly exhausted. I’m glad she had a friend here, but I despise it was a man.

“I think this is the deepest she has slept since everything happened.”

“Why didn’t you force her—carry her out of here if you had to?”

Havoc looks down at the floor. “She isn’t speaking to me. The only time she has let me close was when she had a mild panic attack a few days ago. And we both know there is no forcing her to do anything she doesn’t want to do. I didn’t want to be that person to her.”

“Because you tried to leave?” I assume. There were a few pieces I was able to put together as he rehashed some of the things that I’ve missed.

He nods and fists his hair with his free hand. “Fuck. Arrow. I–I’m sorry. If it was my fault you slipped into a coma…I didn’t know my actions would cause all of this to happen. I just got so scared seeing the both of you hurt that I couldn’t think straight. I don’t think I ever could have left you guys, but my stupid brain started playing games with me and–”

I pull his wrist and tug him to my chest to claim his lips. I don’t have a lot of strength, but I can manage small things like this.

His lips tremble as they press against mine. He moves a hand behind my head to deepen the kiss, whispering apologies intomy mouth. Havoc doesn't need to apologize though. He didn’t cause this.

I remember the chest pain I felt when waking up after surgery. It had nothing to do with him. As glad as I was to see his face, I knew something was wrong before that.

“It’s not your fault,” I whisper as his forehead rests against mine. He might be nodding his head, but I can tell he doesn’t quite believe me. I squeeze the nape of his neck to get my point across.

“Fucking hell,” he groans. “Keep doing that, and I’ll fuck you right here.”

A smile spreads across my face. “Let her sleep. We’ll get there.”

He tilts his head, a grin growing on his lips. Damn, I missed that cocksure smile. Even if it does get on my last nerve sometimes.

“Really? You’re not running from this anymore?”

Letting go of his neck, I allow him to adjust until both of my loves are lying on my chest. “I’m done running. This is where I belong. It just took a solid shot to the chest to see that.”

Havoc leans into my body, his head settling into my neck. His scruff brushes my flesh and I repress a shiver. I knew it would feel amazing to have him this close. With both of them lying on me, my heart feels full. I feel full. Like maybe I really just found who I am.

“It’s where we all belong. Do me a favor and stop getting shot. Okay?”
