“Hey, Sal-pal,” I clap him on the shoulder as I hobble to the entrance. “Do me a favor and grab the med kit along with the Aston Martin keys, would ya?”

Laney approaches my side while Arrow just looks puzzled.

“How do you know him?” he asks.

Sal walks to the back room where I paid him to store a few items for us. When I found the tunnel opened up here, my new buddy was sitting inside. I apparently gave him a heart attack busting through the door. He was nice enough to let me bribe him to keep a car, a few weapons, and a first aid kit in case of emergencies.

“Met him when I was exploring the tunnels.” I shrug nonchalantly, leaning on the door frame.

“And you just happened to leave a car here?” Laney asks.

I scoff, offended by such a ridiculous question. “No, I left four cars here.”

“Which Aston Martin?” Arrow asks, narrowing his eyes at me.

“The DBS.” I wink. It’s one of my favorites, and I knew we would need an escape one day, so I had it put in the covered parking out back with a brand new cover over it. It’s fast as hell.

“You decided it was a good idea to just store a three-hundred thousand dollar car here? At a bookstore?”

Laney eyes me as if I didn’t think this through.

“No one would drive it if it was hidden here, so it was safe. I couldn’t let Arrow get his hands on it. He would have never let it go.” I pout, sticking out my bottom lip just like I’ve seen her do.

Arrow nods before shrugging as Sal comes out with the supplies. He quickly takes the keys from Sal and grins at me.

“Damn straight. Now I’m driving.”

“No. This was my plan.”

“Yes,” Laney says. “Your very crappy not-well-thought-through plan. I hope you have a blanket to put your leg on because I will riot if you mess up that interior with blood. Oh, and I call shotgun.”

She flips her hair and positions her bow over her shoulder.

“Oh, so I have to ride in the back ofmynew fucking car?” I have so much more to say, but Sal interrupts my fit.

“Excuse me, sir. You might want to be on your way. It looks like there could be people coming this way on the cameras.”

I had a few cameras installed around the door so that Sal could inform me if anyone was sneaking through our tunnels. They are well hidden, so no one but he and I knows they are there.

“Let’s go,” I say, limping out the door. Arrow swiftly comes to my side to support my weight as Laney grabs a blanket by the door and hands Sal some cash.

“Thanks, buddy,” I holler back as Laney removes the cover off of the shiny silver masterpiece of a car.

Arrow leans the front seat forward so I can climb in the back, and Laney places the blanket over the seat where I’m able to prop up my leg.

While rifling through the med equipment, I’m glad I thought ahead about the rabies shot because of the amount of wild dogs in the area. Removing my shirt, I shoot the needle into my arm.

“Aren’t those supposed to go in your butt or something?” Laney asks. I flash her a wink as the car turns out of the parking area.

“Trying to get me to strip for you, baby girl?”

She huffs but I see the smile peeking through. “No.”

Leaning forward, I adjust myself so I can speak right into her ear.

“For your information, no, it should go in the arm to prevent harm to the sciatic nerve. But, if you want me to remove my pants for you, I will.”

“Stop it,” Arrow says from the driver's seat. We’re already near the highway. “Besides, technically she won the bet. I don’t need that happening right now.”
