“No way,” Arrow argues. “Maybe if you say it before you kill them, but not when they are laying there choking on their own blood.”

“I disagree,” Adrian chimes in. “It is always murder. If you apologize, that just makes you a narcissist or a psychopath.”

“This is not a normal conversation to have over breakfast,” Laney murmurs.

“Would you rather talk about the sequin piece you had under that hoodie that clearly belonged to one of these men last night?”

Laney scowls at me, but her cheeks pinken. I swear Havoc growls, and it makes me kind of want to pet him. However, I think he’s the kind of animal that’s all barkandall bite.

“Anyway,” Laney draws out the word, stabbing a fork into her eggs, “I was thinking you guys could be our backup. You’re good with a crossbow, right Adrian?”

“I am,” Adrian confirms.

“Great. Let’s all get some target practice in today, and I can run you both through the plan. If you’re up for it that is. Also, Evie told me to tell you that you both are welcome to join her organization if the Triads don’t work out.”

My ears perk up at that. “Does this organization have a name?”

Laney smiles from ear to ear. “We call ourselves the Brutal Babes.”

“Even the men?” I ask.

“Hey, men can be babes too.” Laney takes a large bite of eggs and I laugh. She’s not wrong there.

“Alright, most important question then. Do you guys have shirts?”

Laney gives me an incredulous look. “We are a secret society comprised of assassins, hitmen, gangsters, and mafia wannabes. No, we do not have shirts.”

“What about a patch?”

This time Havoc stands to leave. I bet he’s just as excited about this as I am. Every group needs patches.

“No, Akio, we do not have patches.”

So many ideas float through my mind. “I’ll email you and Evie some patch design ideas. Might as well put that graphic design certificate I got to good use.”

Laney and Arrow start laughing. I think they think I’m joking, but I’m really not. Whatever it is, it has to be badass.

Chapter 32

It’s been three weeks since Akio and Adrian moved in. I have to say that having them around has actually been really nice. This house is large, and they help us fill it with a sense of family. I try not to let Akio think I like him too much because he likes to flirt with my girl, but in all honesty, my heart goes out to the guy.

My family abandoned me when I was eighteen, and I haven’t looked back. I was born in a bad area with bad people. My parents did the best they could for a while, but eventually, they too turned to drugs that killed them a year after I left.

I never had to come out to anyone about who I was or what I preferred sexually. I was able to grow into myself in a spacewhere men were honored for their hard work and fucked by whoever they wished.

I don’t know what Akio’s story is, but I do know the fear a lot of people like him face. It’s not fair. Even though the kid drives me insane, I still want to protect him from that. Not that he needs it.

He’s a skilled sharpshooter and a well trained fighter. Some of his moves can even take me down, which is probably what intimidates me so much about him. He flirts with my girl and has the skills to make me bleed. That’s not a combination most people would tolerate.

However, I do because I trust Laney. Which is why I am choosing to drink a full glass of whisky while waiting on Arrow to get back from taking Laney and Akio to a sleepover at Evie’s.

I’m less possessive than Alexi, so I’m curious as to how he interprets this friendship. It’s clear whatever Evie wants, she gets. But after their little make-out show on the roof, I’m surprised Alexi didn’t find a way to shut it down tonight. I trust Laney, and we talked about it after. Arrow and I both agree that if she wants to try things outside of our dynamic, we’re cool with it, we just want to know who it is first.

I sigh, throwing back the last of the glass and go to the drawer in the kitchen to retrieve Arrow’s gift. It arrived three days ago, but I think now is the perfect time to give it to him.

We have two days before our plan unfolds. At this point, Dr. K makes regular appearances at our house in the mornings, and we've all been in constant contact with her. The afternoons are filled with training and the nights full of fucking.

If this plan works, we all agree a long vacation is necessary. Laney wants to go to Thailand and stay in the houses out on the water. I know Arrow will love that because he basically lives in the sun. I’ll just love being there with them both.
