“And if he does? At what expense? I become a hypocrite and force him to choose between the life he wants and the life I want?”

Her mom was gentle, but firm. “But just like you get your choice, he should get his. You’re taking it from him, making the choice for him. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Just because he might not have done this for you doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it for him.”

Her heart felt so heavy as she imagined the life where Nas gave up his world to do what she wanted. Because she knew he would, but he would be unhappy. She couldn’t live knowing she forced a man she loved into a life he hated.

“I think it all falls down to me being afraid of hurting him. Right now, this is the path of least pain for him.”

“And the most pain for you.”

“I made that bed. I have to lie in it, right?”

Chapter 19

Sunday, November 21

1:45 p.m.

“Oh no. I have to do this another weekend. Nooo, help.”

Keoni was giggling at his own attempt at fake sincerity, and she rolled her eyes.

“I won’t do a live feed with Isaiah next weekend, just to keep it a little more low-key. That way Psycho will show up. I’ll have a live on Blaine instead and throw people off track.” She jotted down a note to contact Blaine, then looked up in time to see Isaiah lumber into view of the camera, her powder blue silk pajamas on. He scratched at his crotch, yawning and stretching.

“You know you have nothing to scratch, and if you do that shit in public, I’m going to burn you alive. You better not be embarrassing me.”

“Shit. Habit.” His smiling face, or well, her smiling face filled the camera, pushing Keoni over. “Just so you know, as a thank you, you can order me silk pajamas in my normal size. These things are comfy as hell. Feels like I’m gliding around in the bed.”

“Sure thing. I’ll put it on my to do list, right after we catch the stalker.” She raised her eyebrows questioningly. “How did you handle it? Any issues Keoni didn’t know about?”

“Only that I agree. Men are pigs, and you were right about everything.”

She snorted. “Not news to me. What happened?”

“You mean, other than the constant demand for my attention, the never-ending touching, and the sleazy pick-up lines? I officially have a list of things I will never say to a woman again.”

“From the camera footage, it looks like you put on a good show.”

“Oh, hell yeah, I did. Pretty sure I gave every man in there a hard-on, maybe even some women.”

“So proud of you. I’ll list that on your accomplishments when I report to your Alpha. Gave everyone hard-ons. Check.”

She smirked at the horrified look on his face. “Fuck. He already hates me. Don’t do that. Just know that I stayed in character, even when all the hot women gave me dirty looks. It was a little heartbreaking.”

“Yeah, well. Now you know who to avoid when Cass turns you back. Speaking of Cass, how is that going?” She struggled to keep a straight face, knowing there was no way Keoni or any of the other guys were told about Cass’s ulterior motive for being there. She’d turn him back into himself, then freeze his dick off if he said a word.

“She’s been in and out, keeping a low profile. Only pops up randomly. Sleeps in his room at night to keep him safe. I don’t think these parties are for her.” Keoni volunteered the information, not giving Isaiah a glance, which was good because he had turned beet red and looked panicked. That meant she was working him over good enough for him to keep his mouth shut.

“Good. She will stay with you this week then. I’m sure she’s a great roommate, right Isaiah?”

“The best. She’s just a sweet lamb all the time. But hey, it’s all a perk because I don’t have to share a room with those three. How did you sleep near them? Between Keoni and Gio, they’re fucking 24/7.”

“Yeah, and the company they choose is not always the best. But don’t talk shit. That could be you if this mission is successful. I’m betting Axel will let you go back out as yourself as a reward.”

“Speaking of being up all night fucking…I think we should talk about this text we got from Zhair on Friday?”

“I think we shouldn’t, Keoni.”

“Does that mean you’ve changed your mind? Are we gonna be cousins?”
