“Me. What are the headlines these days?”

“Gossip about Wes and you being over now that Haley is pregnant with his kid. A small rumor that you hooked up with Skylar the other night. Apparently, someone saw you two together behind the buses.” She shrugs. “Another rumor about Ben Parker and you possibly hooking up. Someone saw you bum a cigarette off him.” I roll my eyes.

“I can’t even breathe in the direction of a man without them saying I fucked him.”

“Yeah, nothing really worth commenting on. It’s been fairly mellow in the headlines lately. A lot about Wes and you but not much else.”

“Hallelujah.” I cheer sarcastically.

I’m hoping today will be less draining than the last two days were. Luckily, we didn’t have a show to play tonight. Today is a travel day. We’ll be on the road for most of it.

I finally check my phone after I finish my toast and coffee.

I delete most of the other texts, putting off reading Wes’s text message. I still have to figure out what I want to do about us.

I finally read it. He texted me an hour or so ago, a simple good morning text.

“Good morning.” I reply.

“How are you?” He shoots back.

“I honestly don’t know. You?”

“Pretty much the same. Do you think we could meet up at the next stop?” He asks.

“Yeah.”

“I miss you.”

“I miss you too.”

“In the sake of being honest, Haley is on my bus, but she is in her own bunk.

“Okay.” Is all I say to that. I want to ask how that happened. I want to know how long she is staying. Would she be hanging around the rest of the tour because I don’t think I can stand that idea. Seeing her will make me physically ill. I can’t stand seeing how much prettier she is than me.

I get up and pour myself another cup of coffee.

“A second cup?” Sue asks, surprised.

“I’m going to talk with Wes at the next stop.”

“Yeah?” She raises an eyebrow.

“Yes.”

“Fine.”

I change into jeans and a T-shirt during the ride. I put my hair into a bun and applied some lip gloss as I waited for the next stop. I should dress up and give Haley something to compete with, but I just don’t feel like trying.

It’s just after noon when we make a stop at a gas station. I slip on my shoes and do a once-over in the mirror. I exit my bus and glance around for Wes. I see him standing by Ben, smoking a cigarette.

I think about going over there but I don’t want to get too close to their bus in case Haley is around, so I stay by mine. He glances over, says something to Ben then heads over my way.

“Hey.” He greets me, bending and putting out his cigarette.

“Hey.”

“How are you?”
