“We should add vodka to these.” I offer.

“That’s a great idea.” He says with a smile.

I jump off the couch and go over to the cupboard. Sue doesn’t even look my way as I grab a bottle of vodka.

We pour about three shots of vodka into our slushie cups and sit back as Wes puts on another movie. I tuck the bottle of vodka at my feet, and he grabs a bag of chips from his bag before putting his arm around my shoulders and placing his drink between his legs.

We finished one movie and were pretty buzzed, having started drinking from the bottle as we watched the movie. Wes has been munching on his snacks, always sure to offer me some, but I always say no. I feel Sue’s eyes on me each time he asks, though. Watching me like a vulture to see if I would voluntarily eat something.

“We are almost at the venue.” Sue says after a bit. “There’s a nice restaurant down the street from it.”

“A restaurant?”

“Yes. I thought I’d make Wesley and you a reservation.” She retorts, practically jabbing me with rules.

“That sounds a lot like a date.” I reply.

“Friends can go out to eat together. Plus, I think it would be nice for them to see you out and about.” She looks at me, her eyes full of warning. What she means is- it would be nice for them to see me eating and out with a guy.

“I’ve got no problem with it.” Wes says.

“Fine.” I say as I give in. At least if we went out for food, I could control how much I ate and what I wanted.

It’s currently8:00 pm, and Wes and I are on our way to a nice restaurant called Roots and Rye. Sue says it’s an upscale steak house.

Wes is wearing black skinny jeans, and a black button-up shirt. I’m wearing a black dress with thin straps that hug my body and my red Doc Martens over tights. I paired the look off with a black leather jacket draped over my shoulders.

“You look good.” He comments as we sit in the back of a car paid for by the label.

“You do, too.”

I’m dreading this. People are going to think we are a couple, and while I don’t mind that rumor, since for once it’s with a nice guy, I didn’t really want the rumors to ruin whatever is going on between us. And then there was the whole added factor I was going to have to eat, with people watching. It wouldn’t just be Sue staring at me as I ate, but probably fans and people who would be so quick to sell some story about me. I could see the headlines now. Abbey Dark eats painfully slow, proof she has an eating disorder.

I’ve been eating too much in the last few months. I didn’t look like I had an eating disorder anymore. I look almostnormal, still skinny, but not all bones anymore. Still, I hated the feeling of being full and was almost certainly going to feel full after tonight.

“Nervous about what people will say?” He asks after a moment of silence.

“They are going to think we are a couple.” I say. “I can deal with that.”

“Oh yeah?” He raises an eyebrow at me.

“Better they think I’m in a relationship with you than think I’m fucking ten other guys.” I shrug.

“Very true.”

“More worried about the dinner part.” I confess.

“You can have a salad and as many cocktails as you can handle.”

“I’m not even hungry.”

“You don’t even know when you’re hungry or not. You are so used to being hungry. It probably feels normal to you.”

“True.” I respond with sadness in my voice. He has a point. I wouldn’t know what hungry felt like if it hit me in the face. Or, I guess, in this case, the stomach. My stomach is used to being empty after years of being so.

“I promise it won’t be so bad.”
