I pull out a notebook and write a few lines for some new songs. It’s been a while since I worked on any songs. I haven’t really been inspired lately. I know the label was trying to be understanding with everything going on, but it has been almost two years since I put out new music. I’m due for a new record.

So, I sat and wrote some songs while I listened to Wes sing.

When it gets close to noon, I get up.

“I should get ready.” I pipe up, speaking to Sue.

She looks up at me, clearly lost in her thoughts, before catching up with what I said.

“Maybe you should stay here and write more. It’s been a while since you wrote anything. Might be good to use the inspiration while you have it.”

“We had a deal.” I retort, folding my arms over my chest.

“We did.” She agrees. I wince with a panic, fearing that she is about to change her mind. “Abbey.” Her voice is thick with authority.

“I ate lunch. I went out for dinner. I had breakfast. I did my part.” I point out the obvious.

I did what I was told. Now I want to get my reward. I want to go on Wes’s bus.

“You did.”

“Please.” I say, ready to beg. “It’s only two hours.”

“Fine.” She says, clearly giving up on fighting me, which I’m thankful for. “Let’s go get you ready.”

Sue sits on a bunk as I work in front of the mirror, applying a little makeup. I decided to go simple for now. I will glam it up before the show. I settle for a thin line of eyeliner, some mascara, and bright red lipstick.

I strip, impatiently waiting for Sue to inspect my body for marks, but to my delight, she doesn’t this time. She simply nods for me to continue.

I slide on a black thong, pairing it with a black bra, before sliding on a pair of black skinny jeans and a black tank top to match the all-black ensemble.

I quickly straighten my hair, leaving it down.

I pull out my clothes for the show, since I still have time before heading to Wes’s bus. I settle on a black skirt and a fishnet long-sleeve top. I pull out knee highs, too, and black boots. I fill a makeup bag with some things I’ll need to get ready for the show and leave it with my clothes for Sue to take into my dressing room.

“How do I look?” I ask Sue after I touch up my lipstick.

“Good. Here.” She holds out her hand. I hold mine out curiously, and she drops a condom in it.

“We are just friends.” I roll my eyes.

“Yeah. That’s what you keep saying, but still, there is no need to be careless.”

“I’m on birth control anyway.”

“Birth control doesn’t protect against STDs.” She shrugs and walks back to the kitchen table. “I’ll get you a pick me up for the show. You get two hours. Don’t make me regret this.”

“I won’t.”

“Eat something for lunch, please.” She instructs.

I nod. That would not be happening, but I could pretend.

I slide on a pair of Converses and grab my phone. I take a deep breath, standing at the bus door. It’s been so long since I felt like I’ve had actual freedom. Yes, Sue has pushed me to go to parties, but that didn’t feel like freedom. That was forced, that was to make a scene. This was for me, something I wanted to do. Somewhere I wasn’t going to be judged. I hoped, anyway.

I walk off of my bus and head towardsHaunting Memories’bus. I knock on the bus door, and it swings open a moment later.

A guy I haven’t seen before with jet-black hair and a beard stands before me.
