“Two beds?” I ask. She normally shared a room with me whenever she got me a hotel.

“No. But I’m across the hall.”

“How are you going to lock the bathroom?” I ask as my bagel pops up in the toaster. I put some butter on it, take it, and sit at the table across from her.

She studies me for a moment before saying anything. I’m afraid I may have reminded her of her own rule here. I bet she quickly changes the room arrangements. I mentally kick myself.

“I’m choosing to trust you.” She finally says. “Should I not?”

“You can trust me.” I say far too quickly. I take a bite of my bagel. “I will be good.”

“I will be ordering you room service, so don’t think you get out of eating.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it.” I say, taking another bite of my bagel.

“You should start working on some new material. The label would like to release at least one new track in the next few months.”

I nod.

I finished my food and coffee before asking Sue if I could get changed. She sends me on my way, choosing not to come with me again.

I quickly and quietly change into clean underwear and put on a bra before pulling on some black jeans and a T-shirt. I brush my teeth and put on some lip gloss. I keep quiet not to wake Wes.

I’m excited to have a hotel room for the next two nights. It means I get to take a real shower. And I wouldn’t be sharing a room with Sue, so I would actually get some real privacy for the first time in months.

It would be nice not to be under lock and key. I knew she would check in on me, but not having to be constantly watched would be a nice break.

I sit on the couch and pull out my notebook. I put in headphones, turn on someHaunting Memoriesand start to write some songs.

That’s what I’m doing when Wes comes walking out into the common area. He is fully dressed in a clean shirt and socks. He doesn’t have shoes on.

“Good morning. Can I use the bathroom?”

Sue hands him the key.

“Good morning.” I say, and he smiles at me before walking to the bathroom.

He comes back a few minutes later, hands the key back to Sue, and heads to the kitchen area.

“I need coffee.”

“There should be some left, or you can make a fresh pot.”

He pours himself some coffee and starts a new pot before coming over and taking a sit next to me.

“What are you up to?” He asks, nodding to the notebook.

“I’m trying to write some new songs.” I shrug and close the notebook.

I did not want him to read any of the cheesy stuff I have been writing, inspired by him.

“We should try to write a song together.”

“Oh, the label would love that. I’d have to clear it with your manager, but that’s a great idea. Abbey has yet to do any features or have any features on her records. Is Alex still your manager?”

“Yes.” Wes answers with a small laugh.

Sue pulls out her phone. “Hello Hillary, can you get me a meeting with Alex Castro? Anytime would work. Yeah. Just text me the time.”
