“There is nothing to be sorry about. You are okay.” He reaches across the table for my hand, and I reach out for his. He gives my hand a squeeze, just holding it for a second. “You are great.” I nod, fighting back tears. “Finish your drink.”

I finish my drink just as the server brings us our new ones. He takes my empty glass. The waiter comes back a moment later.

“How are the drinks?”

“Great.” Wes responds.

“Ready to order?”

“I think so. I will have the New York strip, medium rare, and she will have the grilled salmon.”

“I will put that in.”

“Thank you.” He waits until the waiter leaves before smiling at me. “See, not that bad at all.”

“I just wish I could be normal.” I say, trying not to cry.

“I’m very glad you aren’t normal. You are unique and original.”

“I’m a famous singer with an eating disorder. That’s not very original.”

“Your voice is very original.”

“I guess.”

“It is.” He goes on. “And it’s going to sound so wonderful with mine. We got the green light to work on a song together. Sue works fast.”

“Yeah, she does.” I laugh.

“I thought maybe tomorrow we could sit down and brainstorm some song ideas. I have duets already written, but I don’t know if they are good enough.”

“Good enough?”

“If we are going to do a song together, it has to be very good. Do you have anything written?”

“I have a bunch of songs written.” I think back to a few I wrote today about him. “But none are duets. I guess I never thought about singing with someone else before you.”

“No? None of your other rockstar boyfriends were good enough?”

“I dated mostly guitarists.” I say, taking a sip of my drink.

I’m slowing down my intake. I did not want to get completely wasted yet.

“You dated Nick fromHeaven in Hiding.”

“I did, and his ego was bigger than his dick.”

He laughs at that. “That’s not that bad if he had a small penis.”

“Average at best.” I shrug as he takes a sip of his drink.

“What do you consider average?” He raises an eyebrow, looking at me intensely.

“6?” I shift in my seat as my cheek flush.

“Good to know.” He laughs. “I’m above average, in case you were wondering.” I blush more, and he laughs again. “It is so easy to get you flustered.”

“It is not.” I say, but I look down, trying to stop my cheeks from turning redder.
