“I wonder how easy it is to turn you on.” He chuckles. “I bet it wouldn’t take much.”

“Not from you.” I whisper, looking up at him.

He looks at me rather intensely before lifting his drink to his lips and taking a sip.

“I….” I’m trying to think of something to say to cover up what I just said. He laughs.

“Anyway. Best date you’ve ever been on?”

I take a sip of my drink to buy time. I try to think over all the dates I’ve been on. The best would have to have been the last time we went out, but I’m not sure if that counts or if I shouldeven say that. It really wasn’t a date. Even if our feelings aren’t entirely friendly, it still doesn’t really count as a date, does it?

“I don’t know.” I shrug. “I guess the other night with you.” I say quietly, hoping he doesn’t hear me.

“That was one of the better nights of my life.”

“You?”

“I’d say the other night with you too.”

“Oh, come on.” I say. “You’ve dated plenty of nice girls. I’m sure you went on better dates, ones where you actually got laid at the end of it.”

He tilts his head to the side, looking at me for a moment. “Don’t get me wrong. I am rather fond of sex, but it’s not all about sex. It’s about good conversation, great company, and having fun. All those things I had with you, the other night.” He pauses, finishing off his drink. “And Abbey, I don’t want to freak you out or anything, but I care about you, probably more than I ever cared about anyone before.”

I look down at my drink, stirring it with the tiny straw they put in it, going over his words. He cared about me. I already knew that, but more than anyone? That is a lot to take in.

“I’m trying really hard to behave myself, but it’s true.” He adds.

“I care about you, too.” I say, looking back up at him. “Enough to eat.”

“Good.”

“So, what’s the plan after dinner?” I ask.

“We could go to a bar. Or we could go back to your hotel room and watch softcore porn on pay-per-view.”

“Softcore porn?” I laugh. “If we are paying for it, it shouldn’t be softcore.”

“No? Do tell what kind of porn would little Abbey Dark prefer?”

I blush. “I don’t know.” I’ve only watched porn a few times, but it was always a little rough. “I’m not big on porn.” I take a sip of my drink.

“Me either.”

“You prefer the real thing.” I state.

“Yes, and emotional intimacy. I’m a big fan of that.”

“But you fuck groupies?” I ask.

“On occasion.” He shrugs. Our waiter walks by, and he waves him down.

“Yes, sir?” The waiter asks.

“Can we get another round?”

“That was a black label neat and a lemon drop for the miss, correct?”

“Yes.”
