I cut them into tiny pieces. I shove bites into my mouth, chewing as quickly as I can, hoping my mind won’t process how full I am while trying not to think about how much food I’ve consumed today.

“I don’t know if I can do this.” I whisper after I finish one pancake.

“Two pancakes.” Wes counters, and I know he’s trying to help me. But it doesn’t feel very helpful.

“All of it.” Sue interjects.

“She already ate dinner and dessert. She has had a shit ton to drink. Let’s not make her overeat now. She may throw up.” Wes interrupts and points to the food.

“Fine, two pancakes and two pieces of bacon. You have to finish them, Abbey.”

“Thank you.” I smile, and she softens a little.

I take a bite of the second pancake and chew it slowly.

“I will think of a prize.” Wes grins at me.

“She is already getting to go on your bus.” Sue raises a brow, folding her arms.

“I meant a prize from me.” He snaps, clearly irritated with Sue’s shit already. “You can help me write my setlist.”

I smile and take a few more bites. I’m halfway done with the second pancake, but I’m feeling full, and I hate it. It is sobering me up, though. I feel way less drunk now.

Wes digs into his food, but I feel him watching me as he eats. I’m staring at the last little bit of my second pancake, willing myself to take another bite, but I feel so full.

I sigh and take another bite, followed by another, followed by yet another, until the whole second pancake is gone and, in my stomach,

“There you go. Now, just the bacon, and who can hate bacon?” He smiles.

I take big bites of the bacon. Bacon is good, but I’m just ready to be done eating. I feel more full than I have in ages.

“You did it.” Wes praises, taking my last pancake I guess he thinks he is saving me.

“I trust you’ll watch her tonight, make sure she doesn’t throw up?” Sue asks Wes.

“I will.” Wes quickly agrees. Having people argue over whether or not you can be alone and not throw up is another level of humiliation.

“I’m trusting you, Abbey. And you too, Wes. Don’t make me regret it.”

“Sue." I say before I second-guess myself, and she looks at me. “You think I could weigh myself tomorrow?”

She looks surprised by my request. “Sure.” She replies amicable. “Good night.” She walks to the door. “See you tomorrow.”

“I knew I could get you to eat pancakes.” Wes smirks. His smirk is too cute to be upset with.

“Yeah.” I smile.

“Ready for bed?”

“I think so. You sure you want to sleep on the couch?” I ask as I walk over and grab one more bottle of vodka. “I’ll behave.”

“I’ll lie with you for a bit.”

I throw back the bottle and sit on the bed. “Are you going to get more comfortable?”

“Maybe.” He kicks off his shoes, studying me for a moment. “You promise you’ll behave?”

I nod with a smile. He shakes his head but pulls off his shirt.
