“Damon, we must schedule a meeting with the man,” Jim continues in his guttural voice. “And we must do it as soon as possible before events move beyond our control.”

“I can’t deal with this now,” I reply.

And, as if the fates have willed it, a notification from my security downstairs appears right on the computer screen in front of me, telling me that a blonde girl has arrived and asking if they should kick her out.

So. Ava’s come. At my message request.

For a split second after I shot her a text asking her to come to my mansion, I half-expected her to push back with that fiery attitude I’ve gotten so accustomed to. To bark back at me. To reject my request.

But she has actually come.

I quickly message my security to allow the girl into my complex, and not kick her out.

I glance up at Jim from my computer.

“Ava’s here,” I mutter.

The man sighs again. He knows my attention is placed elsewhere.

A soft knock resonates through the room, and a tidal wave of emotions smashes into my heart. I’ve never felt anything like this before with someone. I find myself grappling with an inexplicable mix of anticipation and suspense, all because I know that she’s about to step into my world.

You are fucking crazy, Damon.

“Enter,” I command.

And Ava comes in.

There is a whisper of a smile tugging at the corners of my lips as I see her again.

That platinum blonde hair... those mesmerizing, mismatched gems of eyes... that gracefully curvy, fit body...

My dog immediately gets up and rushes over to her, licking her hand enthusiastically like he’s some lap dog and not a trained killer.

Ava giggles cutely at the interaction.

“Such a good boy,” she says.

That dog is an excellent judge of character, clearly.

She says a cheery hello to Jim, and the man gives a curt reply before turning back to me.

“You’ve got to schedule that meeting,” he says. “As soon as possible, Damon. Please.”

I wave him away, and the man goes, with plenty of side-eye aimed in my direction.

But I don’t care. I can’t be thinking about rivals and conflicts when there’s this woman in the room.

“Why did you summon me here?” Ava asks me once Jim has left and shut the door to the office.

“I can’t bear to have you out of my sight,” I reply. “If you’re going to be my mistress, then I want control.”

Ava blinks. Her multi-colored eyes gleam at me.

I just can’t stop myself from gawking at those plump, kissable lips of hers.

“Really? Control?”

“I want you to move in here,” I announce. “Stay here, in the mansion, for the time being.”
