“Good.”

Now I feel like myself again.

I lie down nextto her. My hands trace around the outline of her soft lips. I’ll listen to her now. The anger about her ex is gone. I was so fucking angry when I entered this room, but she’s somehow managed to calm me down.

I’m resolved. I won’t touch the boy. But if something else were to happen – if that Luke boy dares cross the line with Ava – then I would not hesitate for even a second. I’d have him before he could even beg.

I picture his face now. Bloodied. Pleading with me.

And I would tell him:no one touches my girl.

If he fucks with Ava, he wouldn’t even know what hit him.

Damon fuckedme like he wanted to own me.

Even though he is like an animal in bed, he knowsexactlywhat buttons to press and when to make me reach new heights of ecstasy. And I let him. It feels good being his captive. In his custody.

And - when it is all over and I’m left a shuddering, happy mess - as he leaves the room, he turns around at the door and tells me one simple thing.

“My brother is in town. August Penmayne. Do you want to go to dinner with us?”

And I nod.

Yes, I would very much like to go to dinner with your family, Damon.

“Wait... what are you saying?”I ask.

Damon takes in my puzzled expression, a casual smirk playing on his lips. He’s utterly unbothered by my complete disbelief in what he’s just told me.

“I’ve booked out the restaurant,” he replies, his deep voice extra smooth. Extra charming. Extrasureof himself. “August has already said he’s coming.”

The whole entire restaurant?

I casually lean against the wall in the guest bedroom of his sprawling mansion while Damon lingers by the doorway. It’s late afternoon, and he’s just knocked on my door to tell me about his plans for meeting his brother tonight.

“Slow down, am I hearing you correctly?” I ask, my voice stuttering. I’ve got so many questions. “When you say you’ve bookedoutthe restaurant, that means you have a table booked for you, August, and me. Not that you’ve actually booked out theentirefreaking restaurant, right?”

The man just continues to smirk at me.

And that’s when I realize he isn’t joking.

“You actually booked out the entire restaurant, Damon? Are you crazy?”

“I don’t want to be disturbed,” he says. “Come now, Ava, you must know what I’m like by now.”

“I didn’t know you were this...gangster.”

Damon nods at me. “Now onto the more important things. I’ve bought you a dress I’d like for you to wear.”

“Thanks, but I’ve got my own,” I reply.
