"About what?"

"Anything. Acting. I never thought about talking at a high school assembly. I've done a few things there before, with the Players, but never just spoke about my life or experiences. This will be new."

"Did you agree?"

"Yeah, I told them I could put something together for five or ten minutes."

"You'll be great at that."

He shrugged. "Thank you. I'll have backup. Ryan was there today, and he'll be at the assembly. He went to my high school, a few years before me."

"That's right. I forgot. I guess he and Bailey are back from Paris."

"They just got back yesterday."

Ryan and Bailey said they might want to try to have children one day, but for now, they had none. They still lived in theapartment above the Blackbird, and they traveled a lot, taking three or four trips a year to places all over the world.

"These came out so great," he said, leaning over and inspecting my work.

His body was hard from working out at the gym, and I held onto his leg as he leaned in next to me.

"Is that going to fit her?" he asked standing close to me. "It looks tiny."

"It stretches. It fits perfectly. Believe me, we've tried it on about twenty times this morning."

"Thank you for doing all that."

"My pleasure. It's fun."

"Warren is up for country music artist of the year."

"I know. Natalie mentioned it yesterday. I'm excited for him."

"He and Sasha asked if we want to go to the show—the awards show and all the stuff before and after. He can bring us along, if we want to go."

"Yes," I said, without even thinking about it. "That would be fun."

"I also wanted to mention your mom coming in from Montana in two weeks for this show."

"What show? My mom?"

"Naomi's recital," he said, gesturing at the outfits on the table. "And, yes, your mom."

"My mom's coming for that? Betty?"

"Yes. We've been planning it for a few days. She wants to surprise you at the recital, but I thought I would tell you early. Sasha said we'll need formal clothes for that awards show, so I know you'll have a lot going on."

"Yeah, I'll get it together. That's no big deal. It's cool he invited us. I can't believe it about my mom."

"I know. She's excited to see you."

"Me too. I’m excited. She's going to meet Naomi. That's crazy. How long is she staying?"

"Four days. She'll fly in the day of the recital and then stay a few days after that. I got her a room at the Peabody. She must've researched it because she mentioned being interested in staying at the place with the ducks."

"Thank you for getting her room. I'm so glad you told me before," I said. "I'll act surprised."

"Are you happy about it?"
