?"Thank you, sweetheart. Now, get some rest. I need to as well. Someone kept me up late last night. However, my brother is waiting for me. He ordered pizzas and everything, even though we just ate. I need to go make sure he isn't trashing my apartment."

My cheeks begin to flame when I think about last night. I smile, though, thinking about Miles getting on to Sebastian for being messy.

?"I could argue the same thing, that someone kept me awake last night. Go have fun with your brother. Goodnight, Miles."Oh, how I wish you were here with me right now.

?"I will. Goodnight, my sweet Lizzie."

?I hang up and pull my laptop back over to me. I have a few more pages I think I can write before I fall asleep tonight.

Chapter 23

Miles

After the dinner with the new investors, Sebastian and I had plans to come back to my place to watch a basketball game I recorded. Since the dinner ran later than I had thought, I figured we would reschedule our get-together, but Seb wanted to come anyway. We drove separately to the restaurant because there were some last-minute details I needed to get done before tomorrow.

?I get to my apartment and see Sebastian’s car is already here. I’m sure he let himself inside and is already making a mess. I love my brother, but he can somehow make the worst mess in just a few short minutes. I’m almost thinking it’s a special ability. I feel sorry for his future wife because she will have her work cut out for her. The thought makes me chuckle aloud as I park my car. Thinking of wives makes me think of Lizzie. I am going to marry that woman. I love her. I would ask her right now if I didn’t think she would probably freak out. Oddly, it doesn’t make me want to freak out. Dad was right. She’s the one. I knew it the moment our hands touched, and I looked down at her at the coffee shop.

?I walk through the lobby and wave hello to the door attendant. I reach the private elevator, put in my code, and get inside. My thoughts are on Lizzie and the type of ring I want to have made for her. She is unique in every way, so she needs something equally as special. I will have to make a few phonecalls to some jewelers next week, so I can get the ball rolling on that. It will take a while to make anyway. I walk in my penthouse and am slammed with the smell of pizza and beer.

When I enter the living room, pizza boxes are sprawled on the table and a few empty beer bottles. “Make yourself at home, did you?” I ask, tossing him the empty bottle on the couch. I walk over to the bar and pour myself a whiskey.

?“Of course. Got here a while ago. Where have you been?” he queries.

?“I had to make a phone call for Thomas to pick Lizzie up tonight. Then I got stuck in traffic. You left just in time to miss it.”

?“Why does she need to be picked up? She can’t get an Uber?”

?“She doesn’t live far from her work, and she usually walks home alone at night. I put a stop to that,” I grunt as I slump down on the couch next to Seb.

?He looks at me incredulously. “You really are in it deep with this girl, aren’t you?”

?A growl comes out almost involuntarily. “She isn’t just some girl. She’s the one, Sebastian. Her name is Lizzie. Remember it,” I say with some grit to my tone.

?He holds his hands up in defense. “I didn’t mean anything by it, bro. I guess I didn’t know it was so serious. You haven’t known her very long.”

?I take a sip of my whiskey and look over at him. “Remember what father told us about when he met mother? How he knew that instant?” I inquire, but know he remembers.

?“Of course. He told us that story all the time growing up. I didn’t think you believed in that.”

?“I didn’t. Not until I met her, and then I understood. I knew that everything father said was true; you just know when you meet that person. I knew that instant. I thought I was going to be a bachelor forever or at least for a lot longer, and I certainly didn’t think I would find this kind of connection with anyone.”

?“You sound like a chick, dude. But seriously, I’m happy for you,” he says as he chuckles. “When are you going to properly introduce us?”

?“Tomorrow. She will be at the gala. It’s her birthday, and I have a few surprises planned,” I reply with a smile.

?“Oh hell,” he groans as he rolls his eyes at me, and I can’t help but chuckle.

?“Yeah, keep talking like that. Wait until it happens to you,” I quip, turning on the tv.

?“Don’t wish that on me. I’m happy being single. I don’t need one woman when I can have many. Bachelorhood suits me,” he swears, taking a sip of his beer.

?“Whatever you say, bro. I’ll make sure I’m there to tell you ‘I told you so.’ Just give it time. I'll be right back. Let me go change and call her to make sure she got home okay." Seb rolls his eyes as I get up and jog to my room.

?I change out of my suit and into a pair of sweats along with a Princeton t-shirt. I talk to Lizzie for a little while until I hear her yawn. I know she needs to get some sleep because tomorrow is going to be busy for her. I'm excited thinking of everything I have planned for her. I just hope I haven't gone overboard. After we hang up, I return to the living room and see Sebastian, reclining and scrolling through his phone.

?"Wow, I thought you might have fallen asleep back there. Now, can we please watch the game before I see any updates pop up on my phone?” he questions as I sit down onthe couch.

?"Yes, princess," I say, as I push play.
