?We sit back and watch the game, eating pizza, drinking, and just having some good brother time. We may have just had a work dinner, but we always have room for pizza. Princeton is winning, which is who we are pulling for. We both went to college there and still follow the team, especially since we both played the sport back in the day. I enjoy watching, but I miss the action of being right there on the court. Sometimes, Sebastian and I play a bit, but we have been so busy lately that we haven’t been able to. Once the game is over, Princeton having won, I get up and start cleaning up this mess we made. Seb helps a bit by putting the extra pizza in the fridge, but that’s about it.

?When he gets ready to leave, he comes and claps me on the shoulder. Even though he is younger, he is about an inch taller than me. “I’m happy for you, man,” he states with a lazy smile.

?“Thanks. I am too. You good to drive, or do you want the guest room?”

?He looks at me for a moment, and then says, “Actually, I think I’ll go crash in the guest room. I think I had too many beers.” I laugh and am relieved he doesn’t want to drive. I probably would have insisted that he get an Uber. He heads up the stairs, and I shake my head smiling. I finish straightening up and head to my room. I happen to look at the time and realize it’s three in the morning. I'm glad I was talking to Lizzie earlier when the clock turned twelve. I got to be the first person to wish her happy birthday. I wonder if she is still awake. I told her I would call her but didn’t realize what time it was. I send her a quick message to see if she responds.

Miles:Hey, birthday girl. I'm sure you are asleep, but Seb and I just finished the game.

?I sit on the edge of my bed and wait to see that she’s read the message. After a few minutes without a reply, I put my phone down and go take a shower. Once I’m out, I dry off and slide under the covers. I reach down and grab my phone before I turn the light off. I click the screen and my heart speeds up. A new message from Lizzie pops up.

Lizzie:I think I was half asleep. I was writing but guess I dozed off with my laptop on me. How was the game?

?I smile at the message. She’s so cute when she sleeps. I wish I was lying beside her right now with her wrapped in my arms. Although, sleeping isn’t what’s on my mind.

Miles:We won. Seb and I had a fun time hanging out. We have been so busy with work, so it was good to take a beat and hang out.

Lizzie:See? I told you that you needed to relax. And I’m glad your team won. I think I need to see you play sometime, so I have proof that you really can.

Miles:Is that so? You aren’t going to take my word for it?

Lizzie:Nope. I’m going to need to see it, in person, of course. Maybe… shirtless?

Miles:Do you want me to play basketball, shirtless? What is the benefit of that?

Lizzie:Oh, that benefit would be all mine. Although, there is a possibility that it could distract me from your ‘skills.’

?I laugh when I read the last message. This woman. I can’t get enough of her fun personality. The way she makes me laugh. She is so comforting.

Miles:Well, I want both, to distract and not. It’s a bit of a dilemma. So, does this work both ways? You will show me your softball skills, shirtless?

?I can see her smirk in my mind when she reads my message.

Lizzie:Of course not! You can’t play softball naked! Are you crazy?

Miles:For you, I am.

?I take a deep breath waiting for her reply.

Lizzie:Are you?

?I blow out a breath and think of what to reply. I type a few responses and delete them. I delete the message I was working on and call her instead.

“Hey,” she answers softly.

?“I wanted to hear your voice. And as an answer to your question, you know I am crazy about you. I told you last night that you are mine and I am yours. You are truly an extraordinary woman, Lizzie.”

?She lets out a small gasp that makes me smile. I know she heard me tell her last night; but I want to keep telling her, so she doesn't have any reason to doubt us.

?“I feel the same way, Miles. I can’t believe it. It’s been such a short amount of time since we met. But I feel so comfortable with you.”

?My smile gets so large my cheeks begin to tremble.

“I’m glad, baby. I want you to be comfortable with me, and for you to trust me with all of you. Your heart, body, and soul. Lizzie, I want the honor to protect them. I’m not going anywhere.”

?"I know you aren't. I believe you." I hear a muffled yawn on her end, and I know she's exhausted. I'm being selfish keeping her awake.

?"I just wanted to hear your voice, sweetheart. Get some sleep."
