“Whoa there, Sebastian. Aren’t you supposed to be schmoozing me? I mean it’s my money you want.” He takes a breath and winks at Stormy. She visibly shutters and looks at me. It’s that look that makes me wrap this meeting up.

“Actually, I think this meeting has come to an end. If you would please show yourself out,” I assert.

“You’ve got to be kidding me, Knight. What will big brother say when he learns you lost a major account?” Jared stands, his face turning red.

“Oh, we don’t think of you as a major account. And Miles backs me up one hundred percent of the time, especially if it involves our employees. Now, I’ve asked you to leave. Do I need to call for security to escort you from the premises?” I ask.

“No need. You will regret this, Knight.” Jared obviously doesn’t like being talked down to and he doesn’t like being denied. But over my dead body would he touch Stormy. She’smine.

What the fuck? She isn’t mine. I don’t know where the hell that came from. She’snotmine. But saying that to myself makes me want to see red. What the hell is wrong with me?

Jared leaves the conference room and I hear a small sigh of relief come from Stormy. “I’m sorry he was making you uncomfortable. There is no excuse for that. I’m sorry I didn’t notice it sooner,” I state, as I take my seat next to her.

“Thank you for getting rid of him, although I hate that you lost his company’s money,” she responds.

“No need to thank me. Honestly, the guy has always been a sleazeball. I’ve had enough of him and his dirty money,” I reply as she nods her approval.

“If you don’t need me any longer, can I take my lunch break?” She asks as she looks from her watch to me.

“Sure. When you get finished, come to my office so we can go over schedules, emails, and things of the like.”

“Thank you!” She exclaims and she has her things bundled up and in her arms as she nearly runs from the room. I check my watch as well and see that she probably still has time to get into her class scheduling. Packing up my laptop, I leave the conference room and head back to my office. I pass Stormy along the way with her fingers flying over her keyboard. From a distance I can see SVA on the screen. So, she is taking classes at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. No wonder she was examining the painting downstairs. I wonder if her schedule is going to affect her work schedule. I decide to drop my laptop off in my office and I walk toward the elevators. I need to get out of here because Stormy just does something strange to me. I feel the need to be close to her, and I immensely enjoy verbally sparring with her. She’s messing me all up.

Chapter 10

Stormy

Phew.I was able to get all the classes I wanted. I needed most of them to be online or at night since I have this job now and it all worked out. I sit back in my chair and let out a deep breath.

Stormy:I got all the classes that I wanted!

It takes Lana a few minutes to respond. In the meantime, I check my watch and see that I have enough time to run down to the ground level cafeteria that’s in this building. My stomach rumbles in acknowledgment.

Picasso:That’s so great! I got everything except The Abstract Image class. Did you get that one?

Stormy:I did, and I think there was still spots available. It’s a night class. Not sure if you wanted that or not.

Stormy:Check and see. I’m going to go get some lunch.

I grab my purse and drop my phone in. Walking toward the elevator, I see Elijah heading the same way from the other side of the floor. He introduced himself this morning after I was finished with Mary and he helped me figure out the programs they use for scheduling and such. He was a huge help and super nice. However, I don’t see how he lasted a second working for Sebastian. I’m surprised he wasn’t eaten alive. Hewarned me about Sebastian but what he doesn’t know is that I can handle that man any day. He pisses me off, but at the end of the day he isn’t going to walk all over me like he did Elijah. I don’t care what he’s used to.

“Hey, going downstairs?” Elijah asks once he catches up to me. He’s probably five or so inches taller than me with my heels on and pretty thin. He wears circle black rimmed glasses which accentuate his green eyes. He reminds me of Harry Potter, in the books not the movies version. This interests me because I have a full sleeve of tattoos dedicated to that book series.

“Yeah, I’m starved. Heading down to the café,” I reply after I hit the down button.

“I’ll join you if you don’t mind,” he suggests.

“That’s fine. I don’t have tons of time. I was just going to grab something and come right back up,” I state as the elevator doors open. We walk in and he presses the ground button.

“How’s your first day going?” Elijah queries.

“It’s been fine so far. There was an uncomfortable meeting with Jared Thompson but other than that the computer work is a piece of cake. I used to schedule things all the time when I was in – I mean, when I was younger and in college.” My cheeks heat up and I look away from Elijah before he notices. I almost told a complete stranger about my past. What the hell is wrong with me?Hopefully, he won’t fixate with the wording mishap I just had.

“Wow, it took me a while to figure everything out. Plus, you are working for the ogre. I’m seriously sorry that you have to work for him. I’ll help out anytime I can,” he states.

“Thank you, but I can handle him. I grew up witha lot of guys around, so I know how to deal with a particularly stubborn one.” Blaine was always stubborn and sometimes downright mean to me. It wasn’t always like that, but once we became famous he wanted everything to be his way. Nothing was ever up for discussion. It’s strange to think of myself as a widow. But that’s what I am, even if our marriage was one of convenience. I loved him, but I wasn’t in love with him anymore. I’m not sure when it happened, I just fell out of love at some point.

The elevator doors open and Elijah gestures for me to go first. He follows me out and we walk toward the cafeteria.
