“Are you alright?” He asks. “Seemed like I lost you for a minute in the elevator.”

“Oh yeah, yeah. I just was thinking of some things I need to get done today.” I had a whole walk down memory lane while I was in the elevator.Good job making people believe you aren’t weird, Stormy.

“Oh good. I thought it was because I asked you out.” I stop walking and look at Elijah with a puzzled look. “I guess you zoned out before that. Heh.” He rakes his hand through his black hair and stares back at me.

I start walking again. “I’m sorry, Elijah. I have been under a lot of stress lately. I haven’t even been in New York for a week yet. I’m still trying to get my bearings.” I try to convey my disinterest without hurting his feelings. In all honesty, I don’t think he would be able to handle me. Between my past and my anxiety, I don’t think he would be capable to be the rock that I need. He is too sweet to give me the tough love that I need sometimes.

“No worries. Maybe we can grab a drink afterwork sometime.” He is persistent. I’ll give him that.

We order our food and wait the few minutes it takes to prepare. Elijah tries to pay for mine, but I decline the offer. I’m going to have to tell him flat out that I’m not interested. Obviously, he didn’t get the hint. I hate being put in this situation. We grab our meals and head back toward the bank of elevators.

“Do you know where these paintings came from?” I ask Elijah, as I look at a different one I hadn’t seen before.

“I think Miles acquired them from a local gallery when he and his brother took over the company after their father passed away,” he says.

“They’re stunning,” I say as I inspect the painting in front of me.

“Yes, you are.” Elijah says with a flush of pink on his cheeks. I kind of want to slap him for being so forward with me and only knowing me for a few hours.

“Elijah, you’re sweet, but I’m-” before I can finish my sentence, Sebastian is behind us and finishing it for me.

“She just started working here a few hours ago. Learn how to read body language, Elijah. She isn’t interested.” Well, that’s one way to put it, but now Elijah is the color of a tomato. He mumbles something about forgetting his drink from the cafeteria and takes off in that direction.

“What the hell? That was rude. I had it under control,” I state, as the elevator doors open and we walk in. Sebastian swipes his card to take us to the twentieth floor.

“He didn’t need to be talking to you like that. You already had one sleazeball come on to you today. Youdidn’t need another one,” he grits out.

“Elijah isn’t a sleazeball. He was just taking a chance. Albeit not a good one but” I trail off. I’m not sure why I’m defending him, his actions did piss me off but it’s better than agreeing with Sebastian. Actually, I don’t know which is a better course of action. They both piss me off. Where does he come off thinking he can save me twice in one day when he threw me under the bus on Saturday.

“He needs to work on being a better member of the team than trying, and failing, at hitting on the new employee,” Sebastian grinds his jaw as he finishes the last part of his statement. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that he was jealous, but I know that’s not true.

“Fuck you. You” but before I can finish, Sebastian has me pinned up against the elevator wall.

He grips a handful of my hair as he whispers into the shell of my ear, “What was that you wanted me to do to you?” He smirks as heat blooms on my cheeks. This motherfucker thinks he can get a rise out of me, but he has another thing coming. Yes, he is insanely hot. Too hot for his own good, actually. But he isn’t going to get what he wants. I’m fresh meat around here and he wants to claim me first. It’s all a game to men. He lets go of me and my head tingles from the pain of being pulled but oddly enough I have to hold in a moan at the sensation.

“Do you do this to all women? It’s probably why you’re still single,” I tell him as I straighten my body.

“How do you know I’m single? Have you been looking into me?” He asks with a side grin.

“No, that’s not what I was – Oh just forget it.” Istep away from him to the other side of the elevator.

I have nothing more to say to this man. He has a retort for anything that can come out of my mouth. We stand in tense silence as the elevator climbs the floors. I don’t want to face Sebastian, but I am rewarded by his appearance in the mirror in front of me. He’s a lot taller than me, even in heels and he wears impeccably tailored suits that fit him like a glove. I’m sure he has a personal shopper, I can’t fathom seeing Sebastian doing mundane tasks like common people. He acts snobby and better than every other person in a room. But he is a looker. His thick dark brown hair falls gently over his forehead and his smoldering green eyes could rival any model in New York City. His chiseled jaw and defined cheek bones must be a family trait if the portraits downstairs are anything to go by. His family has impeccable genes. You can tell he works out, but he isn’t huge. He looks more like Ryan Reynolds. Maybe Sebastian is Deadpool, they are both assholes. He’s a beautiful fuckboy that keeps messing with the wrong girl.

The elevator reaches the twentieth floor and I dash out with my lunch in hand. I set my sandwich down on my desk and throw my purse into an empty drawer. It’s only one o’ clock and I’m ready to leave this place. I still have to go into Sebastian’s office after lunch and go over some shit that Elijah probably already taught me. I sigh thinking, no reason in dreading something that has to happen no matter what. I eat quickly and pull out my phone.

Stormy:Want to get art supplies tonight? I need to get my mind off this place.

Picasso:You don’t have to ask me twice. That’smy favorite kind of shopping, but I will be getting home late tonight. Can we do a raincheck?

Stormy:Sure. No worries.

I sigh again and put my phone away. Gathering the iPad and a notebook, I get up and head to the handsome devil’s office. I take a deep breath and knock on his door.

“Come in.” His deep gravelly voice travels to my side of the door and down to my clit. Hmm, that’s a new development. What the hell is wrong with me?I shift uncomfortably in my heels and enter the man’s cave.
