I pour myself another drink and pick my phone up, shooting off a text to my lawyer to arrange the needed paperwork. I won’t be going down there, but a representative of the firm will, and they’ll make sure the statement is given.

With all that done, I call Marcy. It only rings once before she answers.

“Please tell me this is a good phone call and not one that’s going to make me bang my head against the wall,” She pleads.

“Well, it’s good to hear from you as well,” I retort. “This is actually not terrible news but news, nonetheless. Stormy and I were involved in an altercation on the SVA campus earlier this evening.”

“Lord help me, you truly are the problem child. Go on, tell me,” She replies, and I have to chuckle.

“Three men tried to rape her after her class and on campus. I simply came to the rescue in time and sent them all to jail and very well to the hospital. I wanted you to know in case there happened to be any bystanders. I don’t think there were. We were in an empty classroom,” I explain.

“You Knight brothers go all alpha when you have a woman, don’t you. Damn. Too bad you don’t have another brother,” She jokes.

“We do have a cousin. I should introduce yousometime.” My mind wanders to Samuel, and I think they might actually hit it off. I’ll have to arrange that once everything settles down.

“Where has he been hiding and how come he doesn’t cause as much trouble as you two?” she asks.

“He’s been in Afghanistan for several years. He’s only been back in the states for a couple months,” I clarify.

“Oh, a military man. You definitely need to set me up. But in the meantime, I’ll make sure you and Stormy stay out of the tabloids. Lord knows you don’t need any more coverage,” she says.

“Oh, and also just so you know, I will be paying the Jacks’ family to keep quiet from now going forward.”

“Please tell me that he will be signing something?” she asks.

“Of course, my attorney is already on it. I just wanted to let you know that we shouldn’t be hearing anymore from them, if they know what’s good for them,” I reply.

“Good to know. Keep me posted on when that’s happening. And please stay out of trouble and pass that along to your brother, as well. I know he is back in town.” she says.

“Will do. Thank you, Marcy.” I hang up, taking another large gulp of my drink. I still need to call my mother and tell her everything that’s going on. I have several missed calls from her, and I haven’t had the time to get back with her. I guess it’s now or never. I dial her number and listen as it rings.

“Well if it isn’t my baby boy. Where the hell have you been? I’ve been calling you. I had to call Miles and get the scoop of that was going on. So, tell me about thisgirl,” She rattles off. I knew that’s what she wanted to talk about. She has been asking me for years when I was going to settle down.

“Well, hello to you, too, Mother,” I mutter.

“I’m sorry darling. This is just big news that you finally found someone to make you settle down. I didn’t think it would ever happen,” She remarks.

“Well, long story short, I literally ran into Stormy the night of the fundraiser. We had less than pleasant things to say to each other. Then Mary, from work, took it upon herself to hire her as my executive assistant. I guess the rest is history,” I reply.

“Aw, I am so happy for you, darling. I can’t wait to meet her. I want to have you all over since your brother and Lizzie are back,” She mentions.

“That sounds great, Mother. I need to go so I can order us some dinner. I just wanted to give you a quick call. I love you.” I agree.

“Thank you. I love you too,” she responds. She hangs up and I pocket my phone. I finish off my glass of whiskey, feeling much better about things. I need to go ahead and order dinner so it’ll get here by the time Stormy is out of the tub. Thinking of her wet and naked just a room away makes me hard and I wish I was in there with her. I need her. I need her more than I have any other person.

I pull my phone out and pop open a delivery service app, ordering us Thai food for dinner. I order almost one of everything because I don’t know what she would like. I need to know these things and I intend to find out all I can about her.

I place my glass in the sink and walk back to my bedroom. I open the door and hear the most melodioussound coming from the bathroom. For a moment I think Stormy has put on music but then I get closer, and I could hear her unique voice ringing through. I stand outside the bathroom door listening to her sing. She sounds happy. I pick up on the lyrics.

“Lovely to be sitting here with you

You're kinda cute, but it's

Raining harder

My shoes are now full of water

Lovely to be rained on with you
