“They’d kill us,” said Tonia, shaking her head. “If we expose them, we’d be arrested too. We’re in a no-win situation.”

“I know, but think about what they’re doing, Tonia. They’re literally using human remains to make food,” she whispered.

“Shhh,” she scolded, looking around them. “I just want to forget about it and move on. It makes me sick that Mom and Dad started all this.”

“They were both ill, Peg. We were the fortunate ones to have both our parents suffer with mental illness. They didn’t know what they were doing.”

“No, but Alex and Martin do. The data they gave to the FDA is false, and they know it. Whatever formulation they gave them isn’t the one they’re using.”

Bingo, signed Dex. Trak nodded. They’d found the girls once; they would find them again. Right now, they wanted to get back with the information they had.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

“Martin Keogh,” said the voice on the other end of the line.

“Mr. Keogh, this is Casey Islip. I’d like to meet with you and your brother again if that’s alright,” she said.

“Of course! Yes, of course! When?”

“Well, if you’re available this evening, I’d like you to join me for dinner at the restaurant. It’s Monday, so it’s closed, and we’d have privacy. I’ll even cook for you,” she said with a small laugh.

“Now, that’s an offer we can’t refuse. We’ll see you then.”

Casey hung up the phone, her hands shaking with nerves and fear. Otto reached out, taking her hand.

“You did good. It’s going to be alright,” he said.

“I’m just scared. There’s something about them that makes me very nervous,” said Casey.

“Nerves are a good thing,” said Luc. “It lets you know to be cautious. We’ll be here the entire time. Gabe and I will be upstairs, and Otto will be in the kitchen.”

“Okay,” she nodded.

At five-forty-five, everyone took their places as Casey prepared the final touches to their meal. With a knock on the door, she opened it, welcoming Martin and Alex Keogh inside.

“Have a seat,” she smiled. “I’ve prepared a lovely meal of red beans and rice with cornbread and andouille sausage. Enjoy!”

“Aren’t you eating?” asked Martin.

“Oh, no. I already ate. You eat, I’ll talk.” The brothers nodded, digging into the delicious-smelling meal. “I’ve been thinking about your proposal, and I’m just not sure I can do it.”

“Why not?” asked Alex, dropping his fork against the plate.

“Well, I am a chef, Mr. Keogh, but I also have a degree in food science. I took the sample you gave me and really looked at it. You have some interesting things inside the product.”

Both men set their forks down, staring up at the woman.

“In survival mode, I’d like to think I would be brave enough to eat human muscle, but in a five-star restaurant, it’s not going to fly.”

“Who else knows what you’ve found?” asked Martin.

“I don’t think that matters. Are you enjoying the meal?”

“It’s delicious,” said Alex.

“Well, I guess that’s a testament to your products.” Both men stilled, staring at her. “Oh, you didn’t know. I used your product, covered it in enough seasoning and sauce that you couldn’t tell.”

Alex shoved the plate aside, standing with an angry expression.
