“You bitch! You did this intentionally,” he said.

“Just like you killed those people on the bus intentionally. Just like you lied about what was in your product. Intentionally. Just like you tried to destroy all the restaurants in the area by placing maggots in the produce boxes. Intentionally.”

“How the fuck do you know this?” Martin gripped her upper arm, and she yelped, causing Otto to appear from the kitchen.

“Let her go.”

“No way. She’s our insurance,” said Alex.

“Let her go, or you die,” said Otto.

Martin grabbed a knife, holding it to Casey’s neck. A small crimson drop of blood trickled down her neck as she stared at Otto.

“Can’t let her go. You know our secret. We’ll just hold onto her until the FDA gives their final approval,” said Alex.

“That won’t happen, son,” said a man appearing from the back. “My name is Edward Carver. I’m with the FDA, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that your approval is denied. Let the woman go.”

“Fuck,” muttered Alex.

Martin opened the door to the front of the restaurant, and Otto yelled for Gabe and Luc. The two men thundered down the steps, their weapons drawn as the Keogh brothers dragged Casey out the front door.

Their car was parked at the curb, shoving her inside.

“You get her back when we get our approval.”

“I don’t have a clear shot,” said Gabe.

“Me neither,” said Otto.

“Trackers are working,” said Luc. Let them go. The car sped off and the terrified face of Casey Islip was burned into their brains. They had to find her quickly.

“What can I do?” asked Carver.

“We may need you to print a fake approval for us,” said Otto.

“I’m not sure I can do that.”

“Listen to me. We let you in on all of this so that you didn’t make a fucking huge mistake. Now, that young woman is out there, terrified, and she needs our help. We can find them and find her, but if they have something from you, we’re far more likely to get her back alive.”

“Let me call the office,” he said with a sigh.

“I’m sorry, Otto, I couldn’t get a clean shot of him. He was holding her in front of him.”

“I know,” he said, shaking his head. “She’s gotta be terrified for her life.”

“Then we’ll get to her,” said Gabe. Carver was talking to someone, trying to explain everything that was happening. When he came back, he shook his head.

“I’m sorry. They won’t let me give you anything.”

“Are you fucking kidding right now?” asked Otto.

Hey, Otto, let it go. We got this. Get back here, and we’ll create one for you.

Otto just smirked, hearing the voice of Code in his ear. Nodding at the others, who heard the exact message, they said nothing to Carver.

“I really am sorry. I hope you get the girl back.” Carver left, and Islip walked through the back door.

“What happened? Where’s Casey?”
