Simona smiles up at him. “I’m so ready. I can’t wait to meet him.”

Danil smiles and rests his hand on her very pregnant belly. “It’s our turn next, sladkaya.”

She puts her hand over his, and I swear the pregnancy glow she has going on right now could light the damn city.

“Just don’t pop that kid out today,” Vitaly tells her. “We can only handle one crazy Melnikov brother at a time. Roman’s already called dibs on today.”

She laughs and promises she won’t be popping out any babies today while Danil shakes his head at his brother and starts carrying the bags to the elevator. We all get bundled up and then load everything into one of the SUVs. Instead of getting in with us, Vitaly grins and leads Katya over to the minivan.

“What are you up to?” Matvey asks him.

Vitaly grins even bigger. “Lev drove them, so I’m going to be a good brother and make sure Roman has a way to drive his new family home. I’m going to leave this bad boy in the hospital’s parking garage for him.”

He’s still laughing about his plan when he opens the door and helps Katya in.

“Roman’s going to kill him,” I mutter, getting into the SUV while the others laugh and watch Vitaly drive off. He honks and waves as he goes by, a huge smile on his face and a devilish glint in his eyes. Squished in the backseat between Matvey and Finn, I smile and let out another laugh. This hospital isn’t going to know what hit it. There’s no way in hell we’re going to blend in.

Matvey keeps his hand on my thigh, squeezing me gently while Danil drives us to the hospital. Once we’re parked next to the blue minivan, we all pile out while Vitaly laughs and lovingly pats the hood.

“I don’t know why Roman is so resistant. This baby drives like a dream.” He looks over at Katya. “Was that not the smoothest ride ever, ptichka? Tell me those plush seats didn’t feel amazing on your ass?”

She laughs at her husband. “I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty comfortable.”

“I know, right?” Vitaly laughs, wrapping his arm around her. “I mean, I’m not gonna run right out and buy another one, but there was a substantial amount of leg room, and it did offer some undercover protection. No one we passed was looking over at me and thinking, now there’s a tough guy who runs a Bratva.”

“You should definitely get one for yourself,” Danil tells him.

Vitaly thinks for a second and then shakes his head. “I don’t know, man. It was comfy, but as soon as I sat down, my dick shriveled up. Itwas a little unnerving. I really like the idea of you guys driving one, but me? Not so much.”

We’re all still laughing at Vitaly’s inability to get hard in a minivan when we walk in the main entrance. With our large group and the bags of baby things and extra blankets and pillows, we look like we’re ready to make camp and stay for a while. The poor woman at the front desk doesn’t know what to make of us. The surprised look stays glued to her face while she takes us all in. The thick tortoiseshell glasses she’s wearing make her eyes look even bigger, and when she sees Simona’s pregnant belly, she asks, “Are you in labor?”

“No, she’s not,” Danil says, leaning against the counter. “Our sister-in-law is, though. Her name’s Emily Melnikov.”

As soon as she hears the last name, she huffs out a small grunt and sits up a bit straighter. “They came through not long ago.”

Vitaly laughs. “Did our brother make a scene?” He gives the woman a big smile. “He’s always doing that. We can’t take him anywhere.”

Even though the woman behind the desk is old enough to be Vitaly’s mom, it doesn’t stop her from blushing at his attention and giving him a small smile as she quickly decides that she’s not all that pissed after all.

“Sometimes first-time daddies can be a lot to handle.” She says it like it’s a secret she’s admitting to just Vitaly, since she’s evidently forgotten about the rest of us.

Vitaly laughs and smiles even bigger. “Think you could sign us in so we can go up and check on him? I’d hate to think he’s yelling at some other poor woman who’s just trying to do her job.”

Matvey digs his fingers gently into my side as he gives a soft laugh that only I can hear. I look over and see Danil roll his eyes at me. The three of us have seen Vitaly sweet talk his way into something way more times than I can count. I have to give him credit, though, because it never fails. Now is no different, and I’m not at all surprised when she starts grabbing enough visitor badges for all of us.

Matvey’s the last one, and as soon as it’s in his hand, she spots Finnand starts shaking her head. “No, I’m sorry, you can’t bring him in here.”

Matvey looks down at Finn, who’s sitting proud in his harness and looking adorable. “He’s a service dog.”

“He’s not allowed,” she insists, looking at Finn like he’s carrying all sorts of pathogens and everyone in the hospital will surely die if she lets him through.

I feel Matvey’s body tense, and his voice is even harder than usual when he says, “My fiancée needs him.”

She looks from Finn to me, and the annoyed look on her face makes it clear she’s blaming me for all this. “Well, I’m sorry, but I don’t care. That dog’s not coming in here. This is a private hospital, and I can’t have some mutt running through the halls.”

The look on the woman’s face makes it clear that it’s not only our dog that she thinks doesn’t belong here.

Matvey’s hand rests on the nape of my neck as his thumb gently caresses my skin and Vitaly whispers a quick, “Fucking hell,” before Matvey looks at the woman and says, “That mutt’s name is Finn and he’s highly trained and I’m guessing a hell of a lot smarter than you.”
