I talked to that friend of yours today. She’s ready to help in person if needed. She says just say the word.

Dove Collins

Tell her thanks but I’ve got it

And that’s what I like about Stevie. I don’t have to tell her not to say anything too pointed. Or not to leave a paper trail of what I ask her to do. Seems simple, but it’s shocking how many Celestians simply don’t have common sense enough to cover their tracks when they do sneaky things that blur the line of the law.

There are still a few hours before first period, so I throw some clothes on and head out.

The hall is quiet. All the heirs’ doors are shut, and the lights in the living area are low. The heirs are likely all asleep. But that doesn’t keep me from barging into Axe’s room like I own it. I let the door slam against the opposite wall, revealing the confused and bleary-eyed stare Axe gives me as he jerks awake.

“What is it? What’s wrong?”

I stare at his gorgeous, sleepy face. The chiseled muscles of his bare chest. The line of his hip where his covers shifted.

Just a few inches more and…

I plop myself at the foot of his bed. “Wrong? What makes you think anything is wrong, Axe?”

He rubs his face and summons the lights brighter, showing off the huge bruise on the side of his face. Guess he took the worst of it. Though, it’s strange that Axe’s bruise isn’t healing as fast as Dash’s.

“What is it, Dove?” His voice is deeper than usual. Scratchy. Sexy. And I have to admit, I’m a big fan of the way he’s looking up at me right now. Confusion, vulnerability, a touch of fear.

I give him the same dark smile he’s so fond of. “Oh, you know. Nothing really.” I swing my legs around so I’m fully on Axe’s bed, before hooking an ankle under his knee and pulling myself onto his hips.

It’s just his linens between us. I didn’t bother putting on underwear.

Axe’s eyes go wide, surprise and desire mingling with the diamonds sparkling in his midnight gaze.

He’s instantly hard under me.

“If you’re here for round two, love, I can certainly provide.” That arrogant perfect smile, so at home on his lips, makes its debut, and I soak it in. Relish it.

Because I’m about to erase it.

He reaches for my hips, and I smack his hands away.

Axe’s eyes go dark with desire, pupils expanding, devouring all the pinpricks of light in his iris. He thinks this is a game.

“Dove, you can’t come in here in my t-shirt with your perfect, hard nipples pointing at me, sit on my cock, and expect me not to touch you.”

I put on a pout. “Aw, Axe. Who taught you how bargains work? Because you don’t get two favors before I’ve had mine.”

His brows lower. “I see.”

I can’t help grinning as that cocky smile slides right off his face.

“It’s only fair,” I chirp, wiggling my ass on his cock for good measure.

He groans under me. “You’re a wicked little demon.”

“As wicked as you made me,” my brain bats back.

“What do you want, then?” he finally asks, though his features are more deflated than I expected.

I’d already thought long and hard about the perfect first question to ask.

“Why would the Syndicate hold someone hostage?”
