“I thought the thunder in my head had been my heart rate. Or you growling in my ear.”

“Oh, it was. That storm just started.”

Adrenaline still rode under her skin now that the black spots had faded away. “If we hurry, we can get inside and watch from my window. My view isn’t as impressive as yours, but the storms look amazing.”

“You heard the part where I couldn’t move, right?”

She kissed his cheek and jawline. “You’re a big, strong guy.”

He groaned into her ear. “Not fair.”

“You can do it.”

“Evil.”

She hissed as he slowly withdrew. Maybe he was holding her up too.

He backed up and she locked her knees. Okay, so he really was holding her up. Her body felt deliciously battered and used. Just as she was about to reach for her shorts, she dragged in a breath as he crouched behind her. He dragged his nose along the back of her thigh and then just a flick of the tip of his tongue along the crease where her ass met thigh before he pulled up her shorts.

The man was too good to be true. She fastened her shorts then turned to face him. He took care of the condom and was also buckling up, his long tan fingers efficient and distracting.

“If you want to watch that storm, you better get moving.”

She snagged her hobo bag and handed him the messenger one, and they fell into step together toward the elevators. She couldn’t wipe the grin off her face as they got into the car. Shepunched the eighteenth floor and bumped her shoulder with his. “Thanks.”

“Thanks for what? The orgasms or…”

“Well, the orgasms were a bonus, but thanks for helping my father. If I couldn’t be the one to convince him, at least you did.”

“When we go to St. Maarten tomorrow both of us will be in work mode.”

She frowned. “You don’t need to go with me.”

“Plans are made.”

“Vance. I can’t?—”

“You can and you will. There’s plenty of room on the plane for the things you need to bring and anything else you want to transport if you want to get ahead of the game. While you’re working at the store, I’ll be doing my coding thing.”

“It’s too much. You have to let me pa?—”

“If you say pay, I’m going to be mad. Mom and Pop establishments are my go-to. Honestly. Ever since I sold that menu app and realized just how much I was taking away from the smaller businesses I made it my focus to help small companies. I just haven’t found one I wanted to work with in a long time. Now I have.”

“I feel like I’m taking advantage of you.”

He turned her to face him. “Get over it. I’ve been bored for months. I want a challenge.”

“So that’s what I am?”

“No, you’re a pleasure and okay maybe a little bit of a challenge. But only in the best of ways. Your father’s antiquated system is the work kind of challenge. Especially since what I put together needs to be simple enough for him and adaptable for the changing market.”

She twisted her fingers in his. “You’ve really been thinking about this.”

“It’s what I do. Good thing I found you before my brain atrophied from disuse.”

“Good thing,” she said and nodded solemnly. When the doors opened, she dragged him out and into the hallway and down to her apartment. “Now it’s the true test. Meeting my best friend.”

“Lead on.”
