“But I am sorry I hurt you.” He kissed her forehead, temple, and the tip of her nose. “No information about you will leak from the broker or his people.”

“I guess he’s trustworthy, given everything else he’s done for us.” Kade had shared all the details of how the broker had helped them. “I mean, the man is a werewolf.” Who just happened to be a concierge to the powerful and not-so-law-abiding. How did one even get a job like that?

“Secrecy is his stock and trade. Without it, he can’t operate.”

“If you trust him, that’s good enough for me. So…” She trailed off, not quite sure how to ask. Rather than rush her or ask questions, Kade waited. Outwardly, he appeared patient, but the way his jaw tightened told another story. “I assume there’s biting involved in mating.”

“Yes.” He stroked his finger over the sensitive slope where her shoulder met her neck. His smile was filled with dark, sensual promise. “You might find you enjoy it.”

“Okay.” No time like the present. If they were doing this, she wanted it done before they left the safe house. There was no telling when or if there’d be a better time. Their enemies were hunting them.

“Okay?” He tilted his head to one side and frowned. “Okay what exactly?”

“I’ll mate with you. We’re already connected on so many levels. I can’t imagine my life without you. I don’t want to imagine my life without you.” Whatever danger they faced, it was better than going back to the sterile life she’d had. Hell, they’d survived a battle with a mage. If they could do that, she had to believe they could do anything. Their love, their life together was worth fighting for. She wasn’t the same woman he’d met. Being with him, facing what they had, had changed her.

“There’s no going back.” He sounded almost angry, his voice rough. “Once it’s done, we’re mated for life. Children aren’t likely. They’re rare between humans and normal wolves. I’m something else entirely.”

“You told me that before. Are you trying to talk me out of it?” Doubt began to creep in. She’d expected him to pounce at the opportunity, not keep talking.

“Never!” The word burst out of him, laying her uncertainties to rest. “But I need you to be sure. Beyond all the rest, Solange and Charles are still out there. We may have won this battle, but the war isn’t over. It won’t be safe here much longer. We should probably have already left.” In spite of his words, he didn’t move. “If we’re mated, they’ll never stop hunting you.”

“They’re never going to stop, regardless of what I do. I may as well have what I want, and that’s you.”

“Give me the words.”

God, she was an idiot. He’d been braver, putting his heart out there for her to treasure or break. He might be a strong, immortal male, but that didn’t mean he didn’t need her to say the words aloud.

Looking him straight in the eyes, she happily sealed her fate. “I love you, and I want to mate with you.”

Kade swooped down and captured her mouth with her words still ringing in his ears. His wolf howled inside him, excited and…happy. He enjoyed his life, but genuine happiness had been rare. When her lips parted, he slipped his tongue inside. Her arms tightening around him, she groaned and returned the heated embrace.

She was recovering from an ordeal. It was probably too soon for her to be making such permanent, far-reaching decisions. A better man would wait. His arms tightened around her. She must have caught his hesitation because she pulled back, her lips swollen and damp. “I want this.” The surety and strength of her conviction drowned out the last of the doubts.

Needing to see her, he thrust the covers away and rolled her onto her back. Propping himself up on his forearms, he drank her in. Sensual promise reflected in her eyes. A smile played at the corners of her mouth. She was beautiful, in an understated way, but it was her courage, her self-assuredness that captivated him. Any wolf male worthy of the name appreciated a woman who knew her own heart and mind and wasn’t afraid to show it. Luna took it to a whole other level.

Independent, almost to a fault, she didn’t need him, but she wanted him. It made him want to throw back his head and howl. Dark magic might have brought them together, but it was the true magic of love that bound them. Wolves were tactile creatures, and werewolves were no different. He rubbed his face against her throat, peppering it with kisses as he worked his way to her collarbone and lower.

His woman had full breasts, which were tipped by hard, tight nipples. He inhaled, dragging in the intoxicating scent of her arousal. His cock was one endless throb, and his balls were hard as rocks. Their mating would be a fast one.

A sweet moan slipped from her lips when he dragged his tongue over one hard nub. “Kade.” The way she sighed his name had goose bumps racing down his arms. It was need mixed with love. Many women had wanted him over the long years of his life, but none had ever looked at him the way she did, as if he was the answer to her prayers. The opposite was true. He’d turned her life into a nightmare, but she loved him anyway.

Her fingers tangled in his hair, dragging him to her other breast. He licked and sucked her nipple before moving lower. She’d lost weight over the past few days. Not surprising given her ordeal, but she was still curvy. He skimmed his hands over her hips, groaning when he caught a fresh blast of arousal.

Every muscle in his body tensed as he settled between her thighs, his shoulders pushing them wide. When he looked up, she was watching him. He lowered his mouth to her core and sucked on her clit. She cried out, her hips bucking wildly. “More,” she demanded.

He growled, sending the vibration through her. Her entire body pulled tighter than a bowstring. Needing to push her over the edge, he inserted one finger into her heated depths. God, she was hot and wet and perfect. Her inner muscles fluttered. He growled again, and her entire body convulsed beneath him. Head rocking from side-to-side on the pillow, she cried out.

Throwing his head back, he fought to hold back the howl that wanted to erupt. They were in an apartment building. He had no idea if there were humans or other wolves around them. Either way, they were supposed to be keeping a low profile. The muscles in his neck strained. Jaw clenched, he focused on his breathing until the urge passed.

Luna had collapsed back on the bed, her legs and arms sprawled by her sides. Her eyes were closed, but she was smiling. Whatever their blood and the energy exchange had done to her, she was still mostly human and would never be able to shift. That didn’t matter to him or his wolf. He wanted to see his mark on her shoulder, to make any wolf that might cross her path aware that she had a protector.

Her eyes fluttered open. He loomed over her, huge and menacing, fangs flashing. Instead of recoiling in horror, she stroked her hand up his flank, reaching for his shaft. If she touched him, he was done.

Without a word—talking was beyond him—he turned her onto her stomach and lifted so she was on her hands and knees. Poised behind her, the head of his cock against her opening, his hands on her hips, he paused. “There’s no going back.” This was her last chance to object. Once he claimed her, he’d never let her go.

“I love you.”
