“So just clarifying… you’re saying yes, right?” Rodberg interrupts our moment.

Makaylie and I both chuckle, turn to him, and I nod. “Yes, I accept.”

He slaps my shoulder with a wink. “You know this time, I’m going to be the one bossing you around. This is gonna besooomuch fun.”

I groan as Rodberg stands. “Oh fuck, what have I gone and done.”

“No backing out now!” he calls out, then jogs off out of ear’s reach.

I turn to Makaylie. “You sure you’re good with this? It could put our family in danger again.”

She shrugs. “I kinda miss the excitement.”

I glare at her. “Don’t ever say that again.”

She chuckles but reaches out, holding my hand. “We’re going back to Baton Rouge.”

My chest squeezes, and I nod my head. I lean close, my breath whispering over her skin. “Yeah, little dove. We will return to Baton Rouge, but we’re the good guys this time.”

She winks. “I like the sound of that.”

I thread my fingers into her hair and press my lips to hers, kissing her with everything I have.

This woman is my life, my home, my heart.

And even though we’re returning to the place that turned our worlds upside down, I feel this is the right choice for our family.

And I willalwaysprotect what’s mine.

I will ignite everything up in flames to ensure my family will rise from the ashes.

Every. Damn. Time.

Without fail, without hesitation, and with no regret.

I would burn this world down for them.
