“Everything you already told me. The position’s yours, Haven.Take it. Stay.”

She exhales, facing me completely. “You have no idea what you’re doing.”

I shrug. “That’s what makes it so exciting.”

She nods her head matter-of-factly. “I’m going to need a few things.”

“Name it. I’ll send the girls out to get whatever you need.”

“I’ll make a list. But Alpha, I will stay in the loft. I’m not sharing your room with you. If I’m working here, we have to keep whatever is going on between us slow. I don’t want to ruin this job because I’m fucking the boss.”

I snort out a laugh. “Sweetheart, fucking the boss means you get all the perks. Take it and run with it.”

Haven scowls. “I work hard. I don’t fuck my way to the top, Alpha. Don’t be a dick about this.”

I raise my hands in surrender. “Okay, okay. We can take this at your pace. I’m not gonna force you into anything you don’t wanna do. I’m happy to have you around. It’s damn good to have someone who can give me a run for my money.”

“NowthatI can do!” She chuckles, waggling her brows.

“Eat your damn breakfast. You burned a lot of fuel yesterday,” I tease.

Haven rolls her eyes, crunching another slice of bacon. “I guess I should thank you.”

“I guess you’re welcome.”

She smiles, then leans in, pressing her lips to my cheek briefly before turning back to her breakfast.

Chuckling to myself, I continue eating, my chest flooding with the adrenaline, knowing that Haven will be a permanent fixture of the clubhouse.

I didn’t see this coming.

I didn’t seehercoming.

But fuck if I’m not as happy as a pig in shit.

And damn, it’s been a long time since I can honestly say that I have felt happy.

And the thought of me being happy is also so utterly terrifying.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Haven

A Month Later

This last month has been a whirlwind.

While I happily muck the pigsty with Nacho nuzzling into my leg, I can’t help but smile when I lean down and pet her cute head. “Morning, you crazy girl.”

Suddenly, the backs of my knees are headbutted, almost making me fall forward. Luckily, the railing is right in front of me, preventing me from landing in the mud. I turn around to see Salsa snorting up at me. “Salsa, why you gotta do me like that for, you little shit?” She grunts, then moves forward, nuzzling into me as if to apologize. I smirk, squatting to cuddle her.

“Oh, I get it. You’re jealous because I was showing Nacho some love. You know I’m always gonna give you attention.”

“Baaa,” sounds from behind me, followed by a thump, and I turn to see Doughnut, the club’s goat, jump up onto the wooden fence. His tiny little hoofs struggle to keep himself upright.

Smiling to no one in particular, I stand and move over to Doughnut, pulling him into my arms for a cuddle. I’m supposed to be a ruthless, cold, calculating assassin, but something about animals makes me a warm, gooey mess. Doughnut licks me up the side of my face as I chuckle to myself. “You’re all turning me soft as shit!” I grumble, walking him over to the feeding station Alpha let me build.

I pull the gate back and sit on the comfortable sofa, grabbing the bottle of milk from the refrigerator for Doughnut. I sit with him laying on his back in my lap and bottle-feed him. He’s not a baby, not even close, but this is our favorite time of day. The guy still loves to be fed like a baby, and I am more than happy tooblige. It allows me to relax and consider my time at the club.
